Warning: This is a temporary solution for snapshots in Parallels Desktop. Snapshots created using this method probably will not work with any snapshot support that is added to Parallels in the future.
What you'll need:
-VirtualFolders (http://home.comcast.net/~brkirch/VirtualFolders_0.1.1a.zip)
Note: This program is still in alpha so use at your own risk. The developer of this program is not affiliated with Parallels in any way.
-A working virtual machine in its own folder
-Parallels Desktop
To Create A Snapshot
1. Move the virtual machine folder out of its current location and put it on the desktop or somewhere it can be easily located. Make sure you remember the original location of the folder.
2. Open VirtualFolders and press the "New..." button.
3. Select "Create from Folder" and put the maximum size of the virtual machine in the size field (you might want to have a little extra space for the configuration files and RAM save states, so if you have a 32 GB virtual disk and 1 GB of ram allocated for the VM, put (32 (virtual disk size) + 1 (ram allocated to VM)) + 1 (extra space for configuration files, etc.) =) 34 GB in the size field).
4. Give the virtual machine a name and press OK. Locate the virtual machine folder. Set the location and name of the virtual folder to the original location and name of the virtual machine folder.
5. Wait, it could take a few minutes for the virtual folder to show up on the list.
6. Select the virtual folder and press "New...".
7. Select "Create Modifications to Selection". Put in a name and press OK. When asked for a virtual folder location and name, just go with the default.
8. Wait for it to show up on the list.
9. To use this snapshot, select it and press mount.
10. Repeat steps 6 through 9 to create additional snapshots. You may have to edit the path and configuration of the snapshot if you want to use more than one snapshot at once.
