Expanded Hard Disk Size does not transfer to the "C" Drive in XP professional SP2

I've run out of room in my XP installation under Parallels. I've used Parallels Image Tool and Configuration Editor to successfully increase the size of the Disk "O" from 8 MB to 30 MB, but the increase size does not expand the "C" Drive in XP under Parallels.

Here's what I did in XP and here was the result: I opened a run box and typed in diskmgmt.msc. The Disk Management Window pops up. It shows on the left side of the window Disk "O" dynamic with approx. 30 GB Online. To the right side it shows "(C)" with approx. 8 GB NTFS Health (system). Further to the right side it shows approx. 22 GB Unallocated.

Above that it shows the Volume as the "C" drive followed by Layout as "Simple" and type "Dynamic."

I then right click on the "C" icon under volume heading and open "Extend Volume..." Here's where I hit the wall: The message i get is as follows--- "The selected volume is a system or boot disk or was created on a basic disk in an earlier version of Windows and cannot be extended." What are my choices, if any????

I did make a backup of my winxp.hdd before I tried to expand the size of the Disk. Can anyone help me?

do you save your data in the windows image or the mac file system shared folders?

if not the latter you better move it all to the mac
and create some space

There is a howto at the top of the forums "How I resized a Windows partition" (http://forum.parallels.com/thread1481.html)

You have to convert any dymanic partitions back to basic in order to expand them. Why did you make it dynamic in the first place? That is usually only used for RAID in servers...

I cannot increase the gigabyte size of my virtual hard disk. I want to increase it to 100 Gig, but when I go through the steps, when I get to the source hard disk image and where I am asked to specify its new size, in the window asking for the "Source Disk Image," it will not accept the suggested file location which in my case is: /users/judgebianchini/disk1.hdd. When I click on next, I get the dialog box that says: "The name of the hard disk file /users/judgebianchini/disk1.hdd is not valid as it refers to the existing folder object. Please specify another name for the image file."

I have tried using a variety of different file locations and when I do I get the message: "the file does not exist. Please specify a valid name of the hard disk image file."

I am in trouble here as I have run out of storage. It is now only 8 Gig. I want to take it to 100.

Thanks for any help. Please keep it simple because I am in the orangutan class of computer users.

I'm having the same problem. This error message is really poorly worded. Moving the image file doesn't get rid of the error, and neither does renaming it.
