I just had a successful install of Parallels on a brand new, completely default installation of Ubuntu 7.0.4. I pretty much used GUIs the whole way except for one command. Here's what I did:
1. Make sure libqt3 is installed:
- Open up menu: System - Administration - Synaptic Package Manager
- From the "Libraries" section locate "libqt3.mt"
- If ilibqt3.mt is not already installed, check it and click Apply
2. Downloaded Parallels special compiled version Parallels-2.2.2164.lin-en.deb (download links are in this forum post) (http://forums.parallels.com/thread6035-2.html)
3. Double-clicked .deb package file, which opens GDebi Graphical Package Installer. Ran the installation package. No need to do anything special or answer any questions.
4. Opened up Terminal and typed: sudo parallels-config
5. Launched Parallels from the menu: Applications - System Tools - Parallels
That's pretty much it - seems to work. I'm gonna try some of my various existing virtual machines on this bad boy and see if they run ok.
