Speed of Windows XP VM running on Mac OS X

I installed Windows XP Pro today on my MacBook Pro... Running Mac OS 10.4.6. It's a 2.16GHz Intel Duo Core, 2GB ram etc... so a high spec machine.

So far I've just been playing around really, but my initial impressions are that Windows XP Pro is running at nowhere close to 90% native. More like 50-60%.

Can anyone enlighten me as to why that might be the case...? Or are these 90% native figures that are being thrown around, way off the mark...?

Thoughts... especially from 'Parallels' people would be appreciated. Especially since I've already pre-ordered my GA copy!!!

Just a couple of quick things that may help some. In XPoo, go into Display Properties - Settings - Advanced - Troubleshoot tab, and move "Hardware acceleration:" back one notch. Also in network card properties, set it to full duplex.

Network card properties...?? Where do I find that option...? It seems a long time since I used Windows now!!!

p.s. I think this software is truly spectacular... I just feel I should be getting more performance given the machine specs i'm running.

Bugger, I hoped you knew. Go to Control Panel - Network Connections - right click on Local Area Connection - Properties - Configure button - Advanced tab - change to "TP Full Duplex".

actually ignore these speed issues... it was me being a dodo... i hadn't installed the Parallel Tools yet.... now runs like a dream!!!

I posted some benchmarks here (http://www.mcdevzone.com/content/benchmark.html). PW on my 2.0 GHz MacBook Pro blows away a Dell Dimension 8200 & Dell 4100.

I downloaded the trial version/beta and will be installing XP Pro today. I currently have a dual-boot setup with Boot Camp but that's frustrating when I just need to get into XP for a few minutes.

One question though - what is Parallel Tools? I saw it mentioned above. Do I need to download something else besides the regular installer?

Parallels tools comes with the download. Don't know where it is in the OS X version, but the documentation always works a treat hey.

To install Parallels Tools please do following:

1. Boot guest OS inside VM.
2. Click on menu VM->Install Parallels Tools.
