For those fans of Quicksilver (http://quicksilver.blacktree.com) on the Mac, there's an easy way to make Quicksilver have access to all the Windows applications that you've ever run. Go to the Quicksilver catalog and add a new File and Folder scanner, then point it at ~/Library/Parallels/VMNAME/Windows Applications, which is where the applications that link up to Windows applications are stored.

Is this an alternate answer to the other thread about "Set Windows apps as default app in OS X"? Can I actually open XP Outlook or Powerpoint or Word in OSX while in Parallels? I too, as the user blucci states, could use more options when it comes to possibilities of viewing and editing in both platforms.

You can't open Windows programs in OSX, period. You can make it look as if you had by using coherence that will put the portion of the Windows desktop holding the application window on top of the OSX screen, but the app is running in Windows, not OSX. Windows runs as a guest operating system, and Windows apps run in it just as if they were running on a Windows box.

The links to the Windows programs that Parallels stores cause a message to be sent to a Parallels provided tool running in Windows that causes that tool to start the Windows program. OSX isn't involved.

Hmm... Good idea, but it doesn't work for me. I set it up, and quicksilver can find the windows app I want to open, but when I tell it to open the file, it opens up my windows xp install, but I still have to manualy open the program... I do like the idea though! Anybody else able to this successfuly? It could be something wrong in my setup.

When I go to the ~/Library/Parallels folder, I don't have a VMNAME folder. Please advise.

VMNAME is a place holder for whatever you named your VM.

I battled with this one too. The VMname is what you called your virtual machine. If you right click on your VMname, select view contents. It will open up a Finder windows. Go back to Quicksilver and drag & drop the windows applications folder to the Quicksilver. Give it a few minutes to scan and you'll be able to launch your Windows applications from Quicksilver.
