I just received via e-mail my upgrade key. I purchased mine in the Christmas and got the "free" upgrades. Glad to see it finally came.

Well I received my free upgrade email today which is great, but unfortunately Parallels 3.0 does not support my version of Vista (Home Premium) so as it turns out it's useless :(
I wonder why they limited it to certain versions?

It's MS official policy - they prohibit running Vista Home and Home Premium in Virtual Machines. You need either Business or Ultimate version.

Well, I bought 2.5 some months ago, and recently I got a time-limited offer from Parallels, "pre-upgrade to 3.0 now, and get a 50 % discount. Offer valid through 6th of June". I had forgotten about the whole free upgrading, so I bought the upgrade (and got an activation key and upgraded and all is working fine, so that's ok).
Then, today, a week or so after the above mentioned offer expired, I got another key, now free of charge.
I feel like I've conned myself ...

You have.
I believe most others to whom this happened post angry rants in the forums. :-)
I bought two upgrades, didn't really care for whether I had free upgrades or not. What's the point about arguing over 40 quid?

Interesting.
I remember reading that Microsoft put a restriction in the license for the home editions specifying that they weren't allowed to be run inside a VM.
Is it Parallels or Windows that enforces the restriction?

I also purchased parallels on May 16, 2007 at the Apple store. So, I qualify for a free upgrade. I contacted Parallels for the free upgrade key last week. They responded right away and said I should have the Key in a few days and to just use the trial version in the mean time. They did not send me the key. I followed up with them last night and this morning they told me that I had to get the key from the store I purchased it from?!?! How is the Apple store going to give me a key?
This was the case number they gave me - 160604

None that I can see.
I wonder If I can use the free key on a different installation, thus having Parallels on two computers? Even if, I suppose it would violate the license agreement.

Finally received activation key today.
Hesitantly install P3, given all the comments on the forum.
5 minutes later, I have been surprised that the upgrade process has been very smoothy. Parallel Tools installed w/o any errors. Restarted once and everything works.
Liking the tighter integration - I can finally use TextMate in Windows!!!!
Well done, Parallels.

Tony - How did you originally purchase Parallels? Was it through the website or from a retail store?
Thanks Chris

Interesting.

It is Micro$oft that enforces the restriction. If you want to run in a VM they charge double. That was why Steve Jobs got the biggest laugh line at the WWDC keynote when he announced the price for the next Mac OS (Leopard).
Basic version - $129
Developer version - $129
Business version - $129
Ultimate version - $129
"We think everybody is going to upgrade to the Ultimate version!" :D
Oh, and my free Parallels 3.0 upgrade key came this morning. :)

How did all you guys receiving keys originally purchase Parallels? Was it through a retail store or online through Parallels?
I'm trying to figure out why Parallels is telling me to get my key at the retail store I purchased it from. I just called the Apple retail store and they said they can't provide the key for the free upgrade. I'm at a loss.
Thanx

Is it Parallels or Windows that enforces the restriction?
Both. Microsoft developed the Home version so it would not allow running in a virtual environment. If Parallels went around that restriction and allowed it to run anyway, they would be violating the MS license agreement and could be sued.

I purchased Parallels 2 from Amazon on June 6 and I've been unable to get Parallels to reply to any of my emails regarding a free upgrade (which I have to believe I'm entitled to). Can I ask what email address you folks are using to contact the company?

Thanks for the reply PrinceZordar.
I wonder if anyone that has purchased Parallels from a retail or non-Parallels website has received a key for the free upgrade?
Anyone?

I don;t get this - I have a full (not upgrade) version of Windows Home Premium which I'm running under Parallels 2.5. Right now. I'm not imagining things.
Or am I?

Got a copy at Xmas with upgrade protection (2nd one - long story) and was surprised at getting my link and key today in an email - All good. Was expecting some hassle from reading some of these posts. All downloaded and installed correctly - Very pleased.
Also supressing any negative thoughts I was expecting to have. All good work!! :D
Hope for the best - Prepare for the worst. Thanks Parallels.

My copy of Parallels along with my MacBook Pro was ordered from the UK Apple store by my company for me in mid-May. Needless to say, I was a bit miffed when upgrades for both the MacBook and Parallels came out this month!
This thread has sparked a glimmer of hope that things maybe aren't so bad after all.
Does anyone know if I am eligble for this free upgrade?

I bought 2 copies from Parallels (via Element5) on 4th of May and I've now received 1 v3 upgrade key but despite chasing support I still haven't received the other...
If support are currently overwhelmed then at least a comment acknowledging that there are delays would be nice.

I bought two upgrades as well via Element5, and the email message with the keys contained two keys but they weren't exactly called out as such. At first glance I thought it was a single (very long) key.

Two more days and still no response other than the automated email which is clearly not true when it states "Our support engineer will contact you within 3 business days." I'm re-sending the email to every email address I can find every day.

I got my upgrade key yesterday. In my case I bought it at the Apple store in Late May. I installed and registered it about June 1st. (I had to wait for the new Mac to be delivered.) I tried contacting them by e-mail when I didn't get a e-mail with the key.
Earler this week I downloaded an update to 2.5 (3212) and installed it. As soon as this version came up it informed me that I was eligible for the free up grade and wanted to know if I wanted to get it now. I said yes and a form opened up, I filled it out and it started the process. It asked that I print and fax the form along with a copy of the purchase reciept. I did this and got an e-mail the next day telling me that this was now in process.
Their Customer service followed on an earlier e-mail and moved things along for me.
In short I got the free upgrade and now have it running. So far no major problems. I upgraded two copies of Windows XP pro and one Windows server 2003. Everything seems to have gone smoothly. I did have to force an extra retart to get the tools install to complete, but so far nothing bad has happned.
Tomorow I'll set up a couple of linux systems and see how that works.

I got mine too.
At first I was very frustrated. Parallels referred me to Element5 who referred me to Nova Developments who only deal with customers from US & Canada. Back to parallels.
Eventually it all came through, and now I'm a happy customer again!

How much longer are we supposed to wait? Emails to order-support resulted in no human response. I got that "buy me at a 20% discount for a limited time" email quick enough, but when it comes to the key for upgrade protection customers, they are taking their time...

Can you post links and places you went to go through this process? I'm waiting to hear back from order-support and I have a feeling they're just going to tell me to do what you did. If i can get a head start that would probably save me some time.
Thanks.

Wow, this is really feels like a slap in the face. I still haven't received the upgrade key, but I got an email from Parallels saying I can get it at $10 off for only $69.99 if I buy today (until June 19th). What the *@#$%!???
Didn't I read somewhere that they claim they are having problems sending out keys because of the huge volume, but now they can send out these buy me now or pay more later email to everyone subscribed?

I also purchased Parallele from Amazon.co.uk in May and was pleased to read that they're providing a free key for 3.0.
Have I heard from them ? ........ nope
I tried emailing numerous email addresses but got no repsonse so I tried a web support call. I received a web support no in an automated reply and a comment that they'll respond within 3 business days... it's now been 5 !
They have a fantastic product but seem to be let down by their administration and support sides - I hop they're not this bad if anyone finds a showstopper of a bug ;)

Your Parallels Desktop 3.0 free upgrade has been processed and approved. You will receive a download link via the email address you provided once Parallels Desktop 3.0 becomes available later this month.
Thank you,

Seems odd since 3.0 is already out. Any ideas?
