Guys

I have Parallels Desktop on my Mac Mini and a copy of Parallels Workstation on my Athlon 2200 PC. I have floppy access on my PC using Parallels Workstation 2.1 but not on my MAC through Parallels Desktop. On both platforms, I cann't IML off the OS/2 Warp 3.0 cd. It wanted me to make a floppy to boot off of. I fails to boot off of it send two error messages about no compatible CD for OS/2. :(

I would like to make it boot off the floppy and load the CDRom driver for the virtualized physical CD. :) How do I do that?

If I need to generate 40 floppies how do I make the floppy images that I can use loaddskf off official os/2 floppy images off the cd to a Parallels Floppy image?

ANY help would be all so appreciated on this.:)

Hi there,

Not sure if this answers all your questions regarding creating the OS/2 installation diskettes from CD.

1. Copy the directory \DISKIMGS\OS2\35 from your OS/2 CD to your local drive. (i.e. c:\os2)
2. Copy all the files from \DISKIMGS to the same directory. (i.e. c:\os2)
3. To create the first bootable installation diskette, at the command prompt, type XDFCOPY disk0.dsk a: (a: being your floppy drive)
4. Repeat for all the installation diskettes in the directory (i.e. XDFCOPY disk1.dsk a: for the next one)
5. If you want to use the OS/2 CD and save some diskettes create the bootable diskette (disk0.dsk) and then create the CD diskette (disk1_cd.dsk) and you're good to start your install.

Hope this helps,

I understand that I must make virtual disk images of the three boot floppies to install OS/2 in Parallels on a MacPro.

Could anybody (who has actually done it) tell me how and then how I do the installation process?

I have Win XP pro in a VM so I can access my OS/2 Warp v4 CD. And I have no floppy drive.

I want OS/2 up running in a VM!

One thing that worked for me today:
1. Copy from \DISKIMGS\OS2\35\ the following images to your Mac desktop: DISK0.DSK, DISK1_CD.DSK, and DISK2.DSK.
2. Change their filename extension from .DSL to .dmg.
3. Double click the .dmg file to mount the disk. If it mounts okay, eject it, then change its extension from .dmg to .fdd.
4. Now configure your VM to boot from floppy, connecting at startup, and point to your DISK0.fdd file.
5. When OS/2 boots, it should ask you to change diskettes, at which point you connect your floppy to DISK1_CD.fdd.
6. Your OS/2 CD should be the Default DVD/CD.
I had a hard time getting a boot using DISK0.DSK change directly to ".fdd", but the image worked just fine after opening it as a ".dmg", ejecting it, and then renaming it with the ".fdd" extension.

Let me know if the suggestions helped you.

Worked! Thank you.

Now I have a working OS/2 system.
