MacBook Pro 2.33 GHz, 2 GB RAM
Mac OS 10.4.11
Parallels 4.0, most recent build, just updated today from Parallels 2.5

Parallels seems to want to keep my VM loaded rather than re-starting Windows every time as it did with the upgrade page.

Then, every time I start it, it re-upgrades my VM.

I get the following message:

You need to manually continue the upgrade process.

To continue with the upgrade, log in to your Windows virtual machine. If you have the CD autorun option enabled, the upgrade will resume automatically. Otherwise, open My Computer and run the setup.exe file located on your CD, ignoring any Windows messages. For more information on upgrading your virtual machines, visit the upgrade page on the Parallels website.

I downloaded the update, so I don't have a CD, so I don't have a setup.exe file.

Then I can't install Parallels Tools even though I've tried all the steps referenced on here.

Help!!!!

I seem to have gotten a good upgrade yesterday before receiving your reply, although I scared myself half to death doing it.

I found a copy of "setup.exe" in the Windows Backup folder that the initial conversion process had created on my Mac partition. So I made this a shared folder and transferred the file back over to the Parallels side and ran it. It appeared to re-start the installation yet again.

But this time it hung on step 2. No progress for over an hour.

So I quit out of Parallels Desktop and re-started it. At that point it re-installed Windows and asked to re-authenticate it (first time that had happened in multiple partial installations). This went forward without a hitch; the installation completed itself, Parallels Tools were installed.

Everything appears to be fine now.
