The latest release of Ubuntu relies on Xorg 1.16, but the Parallels tools (at least in Build 9.0.24251) don't seem to support this. Any recommendations?

Yes, this is especially annoying as I trusted the docs on http://kb.parallels.com/en/117225 stating "Resolves an issue with Parallels Tools installation in Ubuntu 14.10 virtual machines". So I assumed that Ubuntu 14.10 is working in parallels and upgraded my VM. Turns out the tools don't support Xorg 1.16 used by Ubuntu 14.10.

Can this get fixed asap, please? And can you guys improve your communication? I lost quite a bit of time, and worse a development VM I need on a daily basis. Setting up a new one is a day of lost work for me.

Yeah, I had much the same experience. Read that 14.10 was supported, then fought for quite a while before realizing I'd have to downgrade x.org to actually get back up and running and just abandoned the upgrade. Quite frustrating.

I can confirm that holding back the following ("=" in aptitude) keeps Xorg server at 1.15 and everything works with Parallels 9, no issues so far. Only one was unrelated to Parallels, keyboard switching is broke right now if you have multiple layouts (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-gnome/+bug/1385844). I was worried Linux kernel 3.16 would be problematic, but that must be what they fixed to claim "Ubuntu 14.10 compatibility".

    Held back:
    xserver-xorg-core
    xserver-xorg-dev
    xserver-xorg-input-all (and dependencies)
    xserver-xorg-video-all (and dependencies)

I purchased my own Parallels in spite of access to VMWare Fusion as part of corporate option. That said, when I upgrade Linux guest within VMWare, not even a single time I have seen issues whereas, I have to struggle between every OS upgrade when it comes to Parallels.

If you inspect the prltools.tar.gz you'll find that the Xorg support is only until 1.15 even with the latest update. So I'm surprised how the article (http://kb.parallels.com/en/117225) can claim supporting Ubuntu 14.10 which ships with Xorg 1.16. Obviously it doesn't work.

Can someone from Parallels please respond here?
