Ubuntu 7.04 Server Crashes After Install
Trying to get the newly released Ubuntu 7.04 server installed.
I first went ahead and created an entirely new image by following the instructions in: http://forum.parallels.com/thread10988.html http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=10308 which enabled me to install off the ISO image. When the installation is complete, it wont start up - It says "Starting", then just shuts down. Next attempt was to upgrade my Ubuntu 6.10 version by the instructions here: http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/upgrading All went well, but when it rebooted, I had the same problem - just shuts down. Any suggestions? |
I'm afraid I can't help - I'm stuck a step earlier than that.
When I try to install Ubuntu 7.04 server from the i386 server ISO image, I get an error after the keyboard/locality setup saying linux could not detect a common CD-ROM drive. Same problem using the full DVD ISO to install server. When trying to boot the live image off the DVD, I just get a black parallels window. Did you have any trouble with these steps? UPDATE: Found a work-around here: http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?p=56368#post56368 (change host type from Linux to Solaris during install to change CD-ROM emulation) |
I should have read the thread you linked to in the first place.
Anyway - I'm stuck in the same place as you now. Server install went fine, but it wont boot. I see the message "Starting up..." and then the VM shuts down without an error. Perhaps installing with type set to Solaris has some other side effects... |
same problem here
install works with the solaris workaround, after failing on the CDROM issue -- but then crashes on boot.
|
Did you change the booting order to hard disk first, or is it sill CD-ROM first?
|
Yes - changed the boot order to hd first, still crashes.

I can't get Ubuntu 7.0.4 Server to run either. I was able to work around the CD-ROM not being found by temporarily changing the OS Type to Solaris 10 in Parallels so that the install would work. However, after the install completed, the new installation will not boot up. It gets past the initial boot screen and then 'crashes' and returns to the Parallels home screen. Changing the OS Type back to Linux/2.6 doesn't work either.
I am installing Ubuntu 7.0.4 Desktop right now to see if I can get that to work... - Eric |
Anyone have any luck yet? I'd hate to dump Parallels, but some answers would be nice. ;)
