Allocating more than 8GB RAM to the guest OS
I'm trying Parallels Deskop 6 for Mac to run Windows 7 Professional 64-bit edition. My Mac Pro (early 2008) has 14GB RAM, but I noticed I can't allocate more than 8GB RAM to my virtual machine.
Is there any way to allocate more than 8GB RAM to the virtual machine? (e.g. 12GB) Maybe I should enable Mac OS X's 64-bit kernel?
- Mac Pro (early 2008), 8-core 2.8GHz Xeon, 14GB RAM
- Parallels Desktop 6.0.11822
- Host OS: Mac OS X 10.6.4
- Guest OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
Do a search for "more than 8GB". The answer is no unless you spend $2000 on Parallels Server for Mac 4.
Thanks for the info. I did search as you suggested, and then just for sure, I manually edit config.pvs to have more than 8GB of RAM to see if I get the error message. Yes, I got the exactly same error message that says my activation key doesn't allow it.
I wanted to run a 3D CG application that requires a huge amount of RAM. I can't afford Parallels Server for Mac 4, so I'll use Boot Camp.
