I've been using Parallels Desktop for Mac for a couple of years and it's worked pretty well for the most part. Until now. Now when I launch Parallels the window that used to appear that I had to click to start Windows (Win7) no longer does. When I try to open Windows through the File menu I get nothing. At this point the program seems to be dead - even clicking Quit under File doesn't work. To get out of the program a Force Quit is necessary. The only thing I did between the last time it worked and now is that I booted into Safe Mode. Now the Parallels Dock icon (a live screen shot) shows the Windows desktop with a window open that looks like some sort of error message (but it's too small to read it). I've tried re-downloading the application to replace the one I've been using and that didn't help. The virtual machine is easily replaceable but when I try to remove it per the instructions in the manual the "Remove" function doesn't appear and the other commands - Suspend, Shut Down, Stop, etc. - are grayed out. Since I don't want two VM's I'm kind of stuck. If anybody has a clue as to what may be happening please (please!) advise. If you can help with removing the VM I have (that I can't get to) I will surely appreciate it. Thanking you in advance to all who respond . . .

    Hi,
Your VM needs to be closed/off but selected to removed using this Knowledge base article: http://kb.parallels.com/en/5029
At the very bottom is information on how to find and remove .pvm file if you no longer have PD. You can use this to see if you still have a .pvm file.
If you wish to uninstall and reinstall Parallels desktop : http://kb.parallels.com/en/114624
As long as you have an activation key for 9 you can down load parallels desktop again at: http://www.parallels.com/downloads/desktop/

Thank you for your quick reply. Curiously, I no longer have the problem. After I started this thread I went back to working on the Mac side with Parallels running in the background when I noticed that Windows had launched. I've got a couple of monitors side-by-side and all of a sudden the Windows 7 desktop was on one of them. The box I thought was an error message was an Adobe Flash dialog box asking to be upgraded. The upgrade went fine. I only use a couple of applications and they work fine. I have no idea what went wrong or what went right. I came here to delete the post but since kat was kind enough to provide some helpful information I thought I'd leave it up. I know I'll be bookmarking those links. Thanks again.
