Is there a way to tell parallels to ask before booting a VM? i have file types that when i accidentally click them, it launches windows and i WISH it would ask me "to run this you need to run "vm name". Are you sure you want to do this? or something similar..

    Hello Bloomk,

Shut down the Virtual Machine if running, do not close Parallels Desktop window

Please go to VM Config (http://kb.parallels.com/117287) -> Security -> Enable the option => Require password : To change Virtual Machine state

If you are running Parallels Desktop 8, go to : VM Config (http://kb.parallels.com/117287) -> Options -> Security -> Enable the option => Require password : To change VM state

Now if you click on a Windows file in Mac, it will ask you to type password to login to your Windows Virtual Machine.

Please check and see how it goes ..!!!

ok, cool... also, since you were so helpful.. I have a vm that my mac uses to run many file types.. IS there a way to change that on a larger scale? like make my mac stop trying to open files in that OS?

    Hello Bloomk,

To disable VM files running via Mac applications, Please follow the steps given below:

    1) Right-click on the file > Open with > Choose default Program > select the appropriate application from the Windows side.

    2) Make sure " Always use the selected program to open this kind of file " option is enabled and click Ok.
