I was/ am having issues with my windows 8 VM - getting "Can't find hard disk 1". I attempted to fix that, but to no avail. Then I started getting "Trying to boot from SATA drive..."

I decided that since I only use Parallels for one app, I would just create a new VM and install windows 8 (retail)

Problem being, I can't restart my old VM to deactivate that copy of Windows and my new VM won't let me get a full install since it's on that other VM.

    - Would removing my old non-working VM also "deactivate" Windows and allow me to enter the key in my new VM?

    Thanks,

    Hi NaterB,

To delete Windows Virtual Machine from Parallels Desktop, please follow the steps suggested at http://kb.parallels.com/5029 . Please note that you will not be able to deactivate Windows activation on Parallels Desktop.

Please create a new Virtual Machine using Windows http://kb.parallels.com/4729 and contact Microsoft Support to assist you with the activation of Window OS.
