I started up a personal Win8.1 VM on my company Mac that runs Symantec Endpoint Protection. SEP is NOT installed on the VM. The Host SEP found an application that is banned by policy when I started it up on the VM (it happens to be a common file-syncing application). Anyone know how the Host SEP instance 'sees' the Guest application? Is there a VM setting to avoid that kind of application information sharing between Host and Guest? I searched quite a bit on the forums and couldn't find anything on this. Apologies if I missed it.

    Either:
You are probably using shared folders, that way files are available on both OSes and so it gets scanned on the host by SEP.

    or:
SEP acts as a firewall and actively scans all network connections, even those between the VMs and the internet, one way to avoid this scanning is to download the file from a HTTPS, FTPS or SFTP location (encrypted connections).
