The Parallels installation on this machine has been hosed for several months and I finally took a look at it.
Error message is "Unable to connect to Parallels Desktop" and says to check that the prl_disp_service is running and that there are no firewalls. Apple firewall is set to allow all connections and no others are installed. Tried troubleshooting tips here (http://kb.parallels.com/en/5791) and here (http://kb.parallels.com/en/5772) with no success.

Downloaded the latest version of Parallels desktop from this site and did a full uninstall following directions here: http://kb.parallels.com/en/5714

Then reinstalled using the latest version of Parallels Desktop. After a reboot, still the same error message as before. Did this with two different VM.

After much poking around in Console and the forums, happened to try running the installer again (w/o uninstalling first) and then opened one of the VMs before doing a reboot. Everything worked. Could open and close VMs, do stuff in Windows and everything is great.

Following a reboot, the same problem reoccurred. Running the installer fixes the problem once, until restart causes it to occur again.

Any ideas? The person the computer belongs to has already spent $ with Parallels support to try to diagnose this problem w/o any resolution.

    Hello Larry,

In regards to the issue please copy paste the command given below in the terminal (Finder -> Application -> Utilities -> Terminal) and press return on the keyboard. Then you will be asked to enter the administrator password. You have to type in the password and hit return. Then you need to restart the mac.

    sudo /Library/Parallels/Parallels\ Service.app/Contents/MacOS/prl_disp_service -e --logfile /var/log/prl_disp_service_server.log --pidfile /var/run/prl_disp_service.pid &

After restarting the mac please launch Parallels Desktop again.

Let me know if it worked or not.
