When trying to migrate from PC laptop, I get the message: "Computer names 'name' needs authentication. Enter username and password."

After entering valid admin account credentials for the PC it tells me one or both are invalid.

    Hi, JerryA

It is may occur if you have no password (password is empty) for the admin account. Please, set up password and try again.
By the way, what OS do you use on the source computer?

    Hi, JerryA

If problem is not solved yet, please, provide a log file from Parallels Transporter Agent side. It's location is c:\windows\temp\parallels.log

I have this problem as well. Windows XP SP3. I can't seem to attach the log file. Is there a better way to upload it?

    FAQ: Attachments and Images

If your log file is too big, you need to cut it:
    1. rename c:\windows\temp\parallels.log or delete it.
    2. start Parallels Transporter Agent and reproduce credentials bug. After that the log file will contain info about your problem.
    3. pack the log file (c:\windows\temp\parallels.log) to the archive.

Is there any resolve for the authentication issue? I just posted another query off the 'can't find the agent' thread and then found this.

    Hi

I will try to reproduce this bug in next few days.

SD Lonyer, please, provide a log file from Parallels Transporter Agent. The log file can help me to understand what's wrong.

Should this log file be on the windows machine or the Mac? Where can I find the log file? Is that the OS system or application level?

cannot upload files ... your system doesn't see .txt as valid. I posted 10000 characters from the newest part of log back. Let me know if you need more or if I could email you the entire file. It's only 27k size.

I need a log file from windows side (where Parallels Transporter Agent is installed). The log file location is c:\windows\temp\parallels.log . It is application level log.

p.s. My XP Home SP3 works fine with non empty password.

Looks like windows have no user with name 'SD Lonyer' (without quotes). Did you try Administrator?
NOTE: administrator account may be renamed. In my case it was renamed to Stuw :)

Parallels Transporter Agent needs a valid user name (this user must have administrative privileges) and password. Password must not be empty (it is windows restriction for network login).

SD Lonyer is the administrator account. It is the only user other than guest on the machine. I did try different user names and passwords but it did not work. Error 87 and 1332 comes up consistently after each attempt. Do you know what those error numbers mean. I will try this again with different user name and password combination and get another log. Do you know of any other domain user elements in the windows environment? I also was wondering if I could buy a Paralles USB transfer cable? Will the Dynex DX-C114191 cable work? I really need this to work.

87 means "The parameter is incorrect" - for empty user/password
1332 means "No mapping between account names and security IDs was done." - for 'SD Lonyer'
1385 means "Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer." - for guest

    Solution 1:
    - add new administrator account (i checked it on account without spaces in name)
    - create password for this account
    - use this account in Parallels Transporter

    Solution 2:
    - check real Name of y account (not Full name) and use it to connect to Parallels Transporter Agent.

    NOTE:
User account have Name and Full name. Parallels Transporter Client uses Name to connect to Parallels Transporter Agent. Renaming using Control Panel -> Users Accounts change Full name instead Name. To change Name you can use Control Panel -> Administrative tools -> Computer management -> System tools -> Local users and groups -> Users.

Transporter requires for computer authentication - MacBook

I am also having a problem with the computer authentication. I am using a MacBook and attempting to migrate from a PC across a local network. On the MacBook, Transporter is saying that I have entered an incorrect password or computer name. I have tried entering the computer names and passwords for both the MacBook and PC but it fails to recognise either of them as correct. It is not exactly clear from the prompt exactly which computer ("the computer") it is referring to, although I presume in my case it means the MacBook.

    Hi, webo

You must enter USER name and PASSWORD for windows account. The account must have administrative privileges and password for this account must not be empty.
In case of errors, please, post here log file from Parallels Transporter Agent side.
