Retrieve backup information from UNC
Hi experts,

I have again a problem that was solved but occured in a bit differen tway again.

We have an environment of 4 Virtuozzo Nodeds and I backup them on an UNC directory. The backup is done correctly. To see the backups is the problem. Only the own backups are seen by the node.
I had this issue before and I was told that stopping and starting the vzagent will retrieve the information. This was right but since some updates it is no longer working again. I think to make the startup of the vzagent faster the retrieve of the backup location is removed from the vzagent startup.
Right now I found only one way to retrieve the backup information. This is to look in the backup definition in PMC and close the definition by clicking "OK". Then a job starts and reads the content of the backup directory to the database in the service container. This should be done on the master server.

The functionality the the one I want but I need it in a batch way so I can scheduler the retrieve of the backups every morning to have them updated when it is needed. Does anyone has a clue for me?

Bye,

Torsten

Hi, Torsten!

I've thought about this a bit, and since no one else has answered, I have some thoughts; I don't use UNC, so I can only theorize.

My thinking is that you likely have each server to backup to a UNC path independently, but if the backups are being sent to the same UNC path, perhaps it would alleviate the issues to set the Master node to backup to a UNC path and to have all other slave nodes backup to the mater node; enumeration of available backups always happens from the master node, if I'm not mistaken. To do this, configure the global backup settings for the master backup server, then set each node to use global settings. I think that would do it, but again, I don't use UNC, so I haven't seen the issue.

Hi,

my red eyes seem to tell me a new story. After applying patch 28 it seems that the backups are red from the UNC directly.
My reason to make the backup from each node directly to the UNC is to have backups even if the master node is not available. So it seems to work now.

bye

OK, but I'm not quite following. The backup files are physical files so you could put them on CD, take them to another VZ4 shop, and any other VZ server could read the backup. In typical situations, I thought you wanted to be able to list the backups, in an emergency, if the master was down, you could point a new VZ server to the location of the backups and list them and restore them not matter which server did the backup originally.

Hi ithomas,

you are true that I want to list the backups. But you had to initialize a scan for the additional backup files. They were not found directly before patch 28.

Bye
