USB WM5 for all Previously my colleague and I wrote a little app to let developers use WM5 devices inside Parallels. I've now improved it and now it should let all users sync their WM5 devices in Parallels. Without this app in Parallels WM5 devices may only sync one time and will always disconnect after a minute or so. This app fixes this so that WM5 devices reliably sync and will never disconnect unless you actually unplug the device. I hope at least a few of you find it useful. To use it you must first put your WM5 device in serial mode. To achieve this either use the USBSwitch app which might already be on your device in Start->Accessories or ActiveSync Mode which is in Settings->Connectons. If you have neither of the above already on your device then install and try USBSwitch from here. Next just install the app which you can download from here. Run the app and your WM5 device should sync up and work fine. Updated: Version 0.2 released (just fixes the annoying exception when shutting Windows down) |

Fantastic! Works like a champ - just make sure you see the five little but crucial words - after you RUN THE APP - which I missed, thinking it was some kind of patch - but it's an additional app that will run in the system tray - and it works! Thanks, maverick808 & colleague. |

Hi, can you give me a tip how to use your tools ? I have ActiveSync 4.1 in my parallels Desktop (final version). When I connect my PPC, it's recognized and XP installs it as a "Windows Mobile-based Device" but ActiveSync can not find it. Then I installed USBSWITCH on the PPC and changed ActiveSync mode to "Serial". Now the PPC is recognized as "WindowsCE.NET 5.0" device but XP can not install a driver for it. It has still a yellow marker in the Device Manager. Then I start SyncAlive and it appers in the bar but that's all. When I now start ActiveSync the behaviour is just the same as without your program and the changed settings using USBSWITCH. Am I using your tools correctly ? |

yes I see it, it's blue. I also tried "autostart" and rebooted the system. Currently I tried to enable developer mode as you describe in the other posting but it looks like the PHM registry editor does not allow me to browse through the registry. BTW, I am using a Yukon based PPC running Windows Mobile 5.0, OS 5.1.40 (build 14406.1.1.1). It runs well when using Boot Camp on the same system in ActiveSync mode. |

Hello! I used Robster's USBSwitch.cab-file; I transfered it via Bluetooth on the x51v and installed it. Then I changed the ActiveSync Mode from "RNDIS" into "serial". ....'till there: no problems !!! After connecting the axim to my MBP the axim is detected by windows: in the device manager I can see "Windows CE USB Device" and in the next line: "Dell Axim USB Sync"...there are no exclamation marks!!! However ActiveSync indicates "Not connected"...."no partnership". I ran SyncAlive....but nothing changed!!!??? Any suggestions...????? fishrain |

I think the most important thing is to find a USBSwitch or MS ActiveSync Switch that matches your device. If you don't have it then try updating your firmware as I've noticed more and more manufacturers now including it in the latest firmware. Otherwise I would try to take it from the most similar device you can find. If people could post me the ORIGINAL USBSwitch that came on their firmware I could host them for each range of devices. __________________ WiFiFoFum Pocket PC Wardriving www.aspecto-software.com |

700w & Parallels & SyncAlive & PDANet successful EVDO on MacBook Following this thread, I was able to setup my 700w using ActiveSync (USB Serial) and PDANet from www.junefabrics.com running on Windows 2003 Server inside Parallels Desktop. I didn't get the throughput I get on my PC using my Verizon Kyocera wireless card on my PC notebook, but it certainly works. I occasionally get disconnected, and then only a reboot will get me reconnected; apparently once the USB connection thinks it's disconnected (I think it times out or something), there is apparently not a good way to make the virtual machine in Parallels re-detect it. All in all, a workable solution until Verizon has a USB EVDO modem. |

can't get syncalive to work... check parallels USB setting thanks for providing the app, but I can't get my HTC Wizard to work... Installed the final version of Parallels + WinXP + Activesync 4.1 on my MacBook, then followed your instructions (installed usbswitch and syncalive) but no results :( Then updated my HTC firmware, tried resetting the mac, etc etc etc but still nothing. The HTC starts charging when connecting it, but ActiveSync doesn't detect anything. ... found the problem... when reinstalling parallels tools i found the device setting (within parallels!) for usb serial mode wizard! easy does it! thanks for this great app! |

Has anyone managed to get a WM5 "HTC Universal" (aka QTEK 9000, I-mate Jasjar and others) to even syncronize once in parallels XP? I have a MBP 2.16, 2 gb, with the final parallels desktop running Win XP SP2 (updated from SP1), with 1 gb RAM assigned. My Pocket Loox 720 with WM2003 SE syncronizes perfectly, but the QTEK 9000 won't. XP apparently finds the hardware and starts installing the driver for "Windows mobile-based device" but never finishes. When I try to restart the driver is either not installed or it has an exclamation mark where the details says Code 10. Activesync 4.1 finds nothing. Have tried to install the switcher and the app, as well as following the instructions written earlier in this thread, but nope... no luck. Hope it's something I could do cause I'd hate to install Boot Camp unless "I have to" :( UPDATE 07.07.06: Got it working now! Donīt know why it didnīt work earlier. NOW the big question. Anybody succeeded in synchronizing using bluetooth? (Donīt know if it is OFF-TOPIC) |

can't sync dell x51 Hello, i've installed USBswitch on my WM5 axim x51, installed SyncAlive in my parallels XP image and it is running in the system tray, but still I can't sync. When I attached my axim, i got a little plug & play notification from windows that said the device was ready, but activesync does not open and when I manually try to connect, it doesn't. Any suggestions? thanks! |

Synching an HTC tytn I know this sounds far too simple - but it worked. After following much of the helpful advice posted here I was able to make some progress, in that active synch at least recognized the device (a T-mobile Vario II) but it would not connect. After an entire afternoon and evening trying I eventually tracked the problem to the makers USB cable and the connector on the phone. The connection is loose, but if you press the underside of the USB plug against the phone contacts suddenly it synches - time and again. I will experiment with other cables to see if this is a quality issue. Naturally this won't help everyone, but HTC users might benefit. Thanks for all the advice so far. kevin |

I've updated SyncAlive so that it no longer causes an annoying exception window to momentarily display when you are shutting down or restarting Windows. The new version, 0.2, can be downloaded from the original link which was here. __________________ WiFiFoFum Pocket PC Wardriving www.aspecto-software.com |

X51 I'm having trouble getting it to work with my X51. First off, how did you manage to get the new firmware update installed using parallels? I didn't have any luck with that. As it stands right now, the X51 shows up in "My Computer", and XP recognizes it when it is plugged in, but ActiveSync is unable to set up a connection. |
