Solved -- although not entirely sure why Managed to solve my problem by reconfiguring the RAID. Took two drives and made them a RAID 1 set for the Parallels Server install, and with a separate partition (file system) in which to stage backups before writing them to tape. Made the remaining 6 drives into a RAID 5 set for the /vz file system. And voila, the install created a bootable machine. However, Parallels only took about 10 gigs of the 450 GB drive. So I have had to manually create an extended partition and then configure the mount for it. No biggy. After that, smooth sailing. And on the even brighter side, I really didn't know what to expect with the Management Console. I actually didn't realize that there is implicit screen sharing of the VM from wherever you're running it. I had read through the users manual and was expecting to be mired in some Amazon WS style command line stuff. But... it sort of looks and acts just like desktop Parallels. I gotta say I'm impressed (so far). Now, I just need to find a driver or make sure that my PowerVault tape drive can be used from the Parallels Server OS. |
