    Hi

I have created a brand new virtual machine with Windows XP SP2 64 bit OS on it.

I went to the Windows 8 upgrade site with a view to upgrading to Windows 8 Pro using the download option.

First I downloaded the Windows8-UpgradeAssistant.exe. At the upgrade site it says this will check if the OS is suitable for the upgrade. However Windows8-UpgradeAssistant.exe has told me "Platform is not supported".

Should I go ahead with the upgrade?

    Thank you.

PS I have read http://kb.parallels.com/en/114985 but it does not mention Windows8-UpgradeAssistant.exe.

SP 2 is not supported - you need to install SP3.

Windows update wouldn't work either so I just downloaded the SP3 install package and ran from my desktop.

Thank you for your reply sandbagger. However there is no SP3 for the 64 bit version of Windows XP.

Look at the Notes part of this web-page:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/help/learn-how-to-install-windows-xp-service-pack-3-sp3

So, I am wondering how to upgrade to Windows 8 from 64 bit Windows XP?
