Catastrophic Failure of VM I have had a catastrophic failure of a Windows 7 VM. Basically, my MacBook pro is set to go into Hibernation mode when the lid is closed, something I have done for the last 4 years with various versions of parallels. I have also left the VM running without any problems. Very occasionally, the MBP fails to wake up from hibernation, and requires a hard power off (Holding power button) and restart to get things back up and running. By the way, the wake up is not dependant on whether the VM is left running, it happens even in OSX. Anyway last week, had to to hard power off and when the MBP was back up and running the VM would not start. Checked the VM and it was empty, zero size, blank, gone, with all my files. Opened ticket with support who then dialled in remotely and could not solve the problem. The ticket has been open nearly a week with no response. Not good. I have a second VM installed on an iMac running XP. I decided to move all my files out of the VM and store them on my Mac Desktop. Then mounted the folder so it is accessible in windows That however has its own problems. 1. File permissions. Occasionally once a file has been opened and closed, It will only open Read Only the next time I attempt to access the file. I have to restart the VM to access the file. 2. Deleting a file from windows VM does not go to the Trash or Windows Recycle bin. I am really spooked by this loss of the VM and as I have had know feed back from support, wonder if their silence is an admission of a known fault. What do others do with regards to keeping files safe on their VM's
