Running Ubuntu Feisty in Vista
Thread was moved from "Parallels Workstation for Windows and Linux > Installation and Configuration in Windows and Linux" to "Parallels Workstation for Windows and Linux > Linux Guest OS Discussion".

I'm trying to run Ubuntu Feisty in Vista using Parallels. Everything is going fine, except I can't seem to get an internet connection in Ubuntu. I am connected to the internet via Wifi and have followed the instructions here:

http://forum.parallels.com/thread720.html

These instructions didn't work - they are written for an XP host, though.

Anyone got any ideas of what I could try?

Running Ubuntu Gutsy in Vista
I'm having the same sort of problem as jim0230. I have read articles all over this forum (including the one on Win XP linked in this thread), been through the user guide a couple times and Googled ad nauseum. I have re-installed Parallels; built new VMs; tweaked VMs to use Bridged Ethernet, then Host-only Networking; and mucked around in the Vista network settings to allow sharing. I even tried using Vista to create a network bridge between my WLAN interface and the Parallels virtual NIC. No matter what config combinations I try, can't get to my WAN.

Here's some configuration info:
* Win Vista Home Premium (haven't added SP1 yet)
* Parallels Workstation 2.2.2222 w/ Parallels Tools installed
* Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon w/ ne2k-pci driver
* Dell XPS M1330 w/ Intel T5450 Core 2 Duo & 2GB RAM (note: this chip does NOT have IVT)

I also have had some screen resolution issues and Ubuntu likes to hang at shut down, but I'm pretty sure I can fix these items. However, I don't want to spend time on those unless / until I can get this network bit sorted.

I really like what I've seen of Parallels thus far, but this networking problem is a deal killer.

One solution...
...I ended up installing Virtualbox (www.virtualbox.org) which is a free virtualisation package. Internet worked on Ubuntu under VB automatically; I didn't have to change one setting.

Thanks, jim0203. I have installed VirtualBox as well and its networking functioned right out of the box. I've struggled a bit with adjusting the screen resolution (I've tried the common suggestions around Guest Additions and tweaking /etc/X11/xorg.conf), but I will get it eventually. Appreciate the tip on VB. Hopefully, Sun will leave this as an open source package.
