Parallels 4.0 installation issue
I've just purchased the Parallels 4.0 upgrade and when try to install, I always end up with the following:

I have a MacBook Pro 2.2GHz with 4GB RAM, running 10.5.5. Parallels Desktop 3.0 was installed but was removed as part of the installation process for Parallels Desktop 4.0. I have tried manually removing any persistent Parallels 3.0 components and rebooted several times. Manually rebooting after receiving the error shown in the image does not solve the issue and Parallels 4.0 cannot be found in /Applications/

I'm also having problems with v4. My installation appears to have succeeded, but when I double-click on the Desktop icon, nothing happens. I tried double-clicking on my VM's disk image, and an error stating "Parallels SDK Not Found" came up.

No amount of uninstalling, rebooting, reinstalling, etc, etc seems to help.

I need to downgrade back to v3. :-(

My issue seems to be firewall related. I have the built-in firewall enabled. I just reinstalled Parallels 3.0 and then without launching it, installed Parallels 4.0. Near the end of the installation process, I got a prompt to allow Parallels Services.app to accept incoming connections. I allowed it and the install completed successfully. This was the first time in about 6 attempts that I saw the firewall prompt. Not good! At least I have PD 4.0 installed and running now.

Guys!
Thank you for your feedback. I'm trying to help you.

neil_c, may you press on "Show error" button and post the output.

jasonvp, may you provide me with more information about your problem?
Where do you have Desktop icon? (on the Dock or in /Application/ directory)
May you try to send me the output of the
ls -la /Application/
ls -la /Application/Parallels
Terminal commands?

Sure. The icon is in the /Applications directory. I double-click on it and nothing happens.

@stasdas: I'm not using ipfw, but the built-in application firewall (System Preferences > Security > Firewall). This is entirely separate from ipfw. I have the firewall set to "Set access for specific services and applications".

Re-read the thread. I've solved my issue -- however, there is still an issue with the installer when the application firewall is enabled. I'll let you be the one to repro the issue.

Is it CD version or downloaded from web site?
Did you allowed to download updated version?

If that was meant for me, it was downloaded following a "You get a Free 4.0 Upgrade" email link. This link: http://www.parallels.com/download/fi...522.205912.dmg

It checks for an update but doesn't download anything. I never even get as far as entering the license.

I had a different issue:

Upgrading from v3, I ran the installer, and everything seemed to have installed successfully.

On trying to launch Parallels Desktop 4, it hangs for about 30 seconds then says:

Unable to connect to Parallels Desktop.
You may experience a connection problem or your Mac may be down.
Contact the Parallels support team for assistance

I tried uninstalling (including application settings), restarting and reinstalling. Same problem.

I'm running a Mac Pro 2 x 2.8GHz Quad Core, with 6GB RAM and OS X 10.5.5. All other operations are working fine.

(Oh, and I'm not running any firewall on my Mac).

Bump to the top. I just want to make sure this support/upgrade issue isn't dropped, even though the original thread starter has a work-around. I still don't. I can't run 4.0 at all. Some library somewhere didn't get installed, it appears.

Help?!

You see the error: "The Parallels virtualization service is not responding. An error occurred when trying to interact with the Parallels virtualization service. Try to restart your Mac. If the problem persists, reinstall Parallels Desktop." while running VM and after you click OK Parallels Desktop stops. Or you see the error "Unable to connect to Parallels Desktop. You may experience a connection problem or your Mac may be down. Contact the Parallels support team for assistance." when starting Parallels Desktop.

Dispatcher service prl_disp_service is down. Restart your Mac or start the service:

sudo /Library/Parallels/Parallels\ Service.app/Contents/MacOS/prl_disp_service -e --logfile /var/log/prl_disp_service_server.log --pidfile /var/run/prl_disp_service.pid &

No, still doesn't work.

Restarted my Mac; same problem.

Then tried the command line in the terminal; it returned:

WARNING: QApplication was not created in the main() thread

...and still wouldn't start up.

I attempted to install version 4 last night on a brand new MacBookPro and it crashed, it froze the system near the end of the install and the system will only boot into a blue screen now. Im going to restore the system but i think I'm going to request a refund at this point untill the bugs are worked out.
