That's your Dock icon for the version that got replaced. Notice the name of the program is slightly different now. Just start it form the Parallels folder in Applications and then save that icon on the Dock. You can trash the old one.

Mike,

Please try to reboot Mac OS X. It should solve inability to use Shared Networking.

I've discovered that if you start disk compacting in Parallels Tools Centre, when it switches to the Host compacting stage, and you're using coherence, things break very much.

Edit: Compaction started from the VM is broken, coherence or not, so watch out. Just kill the machine, restart it and delete the huge file left on the root of C:

That's easy (same happened here): just remove the Parallels icon from the doc, and drag it into the doc again (from /Applications/Parallels). That's it.

Hi Guys,

First thanks for another update.

I never had any problem in any of my previous updates, but this time, I simply can not manage to update the Parallels Tools after I installed the update. When the VM first booted I did get a warning that the Paralells Tools should be updated. When I then selected Actions->Install Paralles Tools ..." (btw the warning message was referncing the OLD VM menu - now appears to be called Actions) I received the warning about having to be log-in to the guest O/S, but then nothing appear to happen. After few minutes I was forced to select "Actions->Cancel Parallels Tools Installation". Subsequently I tried everything I could think of, including rebooting both the Mac and the Win XP VM, later I also tried uninstalling Parralles Tools through the Control Panel, but all to no avail. Please advise how to install the PT because having to use the Ctrl+Alt to control the mouse could quickly run a person crazy. :-)

TIA,

Ron

Hi,

Situation has worsen, since I tried to re-install the new build 3036, now my Windows won't boot at all, unless in SAFE MODE. Will greatly appreciate any suggestion.

This build and you, Parallels Guys, are **incredible** !!
Dear,

The quantity and quality of what you bring in this beta build of the forthcoming 2.5 version is simply quite incredible. I'm just commenting some of these enhancements below.

These two features are just too convenient to imagine having worked without them before.

Very nicely done!

I can attest from the increased 2D graphics performance. And Coherency mode is just such a simple idea, with a sophisticated implementation!... It seems to work perfectly for me, except some minor visual details which were already reported here.

Regarding all the other new features, I just don't have had time yet to either discover them or test them.

This release won't maybe be a major release, but certainly a very significant one!

Congrats & Kudos!

MacBook Pro 2G
OSX 10.4.8 WinXP SP2 with all the latest updates.

Parallels boots the Boot Camp partition fine.
Problem is Parallels tools.
During installation cannot get past the Netork configuration.
Set up is Bridged using "en1" (Airport).

Any suggestions?

BTW: Having same problem updating the "virtual drive"

Problem/Answer: BootCamp Windows runs real slow, programs wont launch
Just to share...

Got the bootcamp VM setup and working per instructions. XP would load, all startup apps would load, etc. However trying to open apps, nothing would load (Word, Firefox, etc).

Task Mgr shown the processes, but did not list them in the Running Apps list.

Noticed that the Apple Keyboard Manager, installed by BootCamp initially was pegging the CPU with 100% load. This is on my Macbook 13" with 2gigs of ram and latest updates all around.

Killed the process, which is not needed inside the VM, and everything works fine.

Symptoms:

Apps would not load, or take excessively long to load in XP Bootcamp VM
Fans churning on high due to high CPU load

Cause:
Apple Keyboard Manager

Fix:
Kill kbdmgr.exe process in Task Manager
(if no ctrl-alt-del, then Start, Run, and type: taskmgr and run it that way

Thanks for the tip!
As soon as I killed the process, I was able to install the Tools and everything is running GREAT!

So, is there a way of having this process killed automatically each time you select the Parallels profile?

Like others I'm wondering if it would be possible to transfer my existing Paralells virtual HDD into a Boot Camp parition. I'd like to use Boot Camp, but I've always used only Parallels, and I would not really want to reinstall everything.

Any thoughts on a good way to accomplish this?

...i'm axiously awaiting an answer to this as well. in the meantime, i'm doing a complete backup of my home directory and /Users/Shared/Parallels (where we store our shared windows image by default).

Good news (partially, at least)!
Well, after several failures last night, I tried to boot into BootCamp directly this morning again and my keyboard WAS recognized at the "pick a volume to boot from" screen and I was able to successfully boot into XP through Boot Camp. Of course I still get the "XP must be reactivated on this computer" message even though I had never even activated it under Parallels. I have ever only had one virgin installation of XP SP2 on this Mac (through BootCamp) and the only Parallels installation on this Mac is the new beta that allows the VM to just boot from the BootCamp XP install.

Build 3036 downloaded, installed and worked flawlessly - EXCEPT when I attempted to shutdown. Process hungup after preferences were saved. Problem was "solved" by removing McAfee VirusScan Plus 2007 from the VM (Windows XP). Any similarity, solution or work around appreciated.

MUCH thanks to the development team for an outstanding product!

p.s.- Purchased on Day One!

Well, I'm still getting the same "wait 5-10 seconds" message for my USB device. :( I know it's still beta, but I was really hoping for my USB device to work with Parallels. Hopefully it'll be working in a future release.

Virtual machine won't start after upgrading
I just upgraded to build 3036 Beta, and now my virtual machine (Windows XP Pro) won't start. I get the following error:
Virtual machine cannot be started because of the following problem:

Unable to get the geometry of the virtual hard disk. Perhaps file /Users/Shared/Parallels/winxp.hdd is not a valid virtual hard disk image file.
This virtual machine was working fine in the previous (retail) version of Parallels. Any ideas what I can do to get the beta working with my existing image?

share printer?
Hello, I just installed the new version 3036; it seems awesome. Will it be safe to use as long as a backup of essential files are stored on auxillary storage like a usb key, or cd. When I mention essential files I am referring to code, and uml diagrams. I mean to say does saving work without any problems. Besides that, I was now wondering is it now possible to be able to print out from ms visio using a network printer using coherence. I was unable to print out before this update. I basically have a printer connected to a pc via usb and I want to be able to access that printer from within win xp home on my macbook. At the present time I am able to print from os 10.4.8 with no problems, but when I try and print something from a windows application like visio I can't print it out in coherence mode. Any suggestion greatly appreciated.

Nevermind, it was a file permissions issue. Somehow the file permissions on that virtual machine got changed during the install. Issue resolved.
