Thanks for the update - this is amazing progress for sure.

I had the issue of Win XP Activation using a Bootcamp partition in the first release. I have installed 3094 and my (activated) VM bootcamp is working very well except for Coherence which I can't activate in the (updated) Tools preferences.

I removed Parallels Bootcamp Tools directly in Bootcamp (not VM) before installing 3094 and now when I try and start in normal Bootcamp mode I get:

"A problem has prevented Windows from accurately checking the status of the licence for this computer. Do you want to activate now?"

Its activated in VM mode, but it still wants to activate in Bootcamp mode. I tried activating again but I'm having an issue (Parallels unrelated) with internet connectivity in Bootcamp mode - its not seeing my network connection so I can't activate again to test.

Anyone else seen this? After activating in Bootcamp again, is this the last time I will need to activate? I know this beta is meant to fix that, just looking for confirmation.

Thanks
Mark

Also anyone know how to get Coherence mode back - I can't turn it on in the Parallels tools.
Thanks

Thanks Mike,
I tried the Coherence fix - first part is fine, but for the second part the command window will not accept:

"C:\Program Files\Parallels\Parallels Tools\coherence" install

as a command. It does not like the directory names. I tried going to the Parallels Tools directory and running the install from there, but frankly from there I'm not sure what I need to type.
If the console is in "C:\Program Files\Parallels\Parallels Tools\" what can I type to install coherence?

Thanks
Mark

Mouse / Cursor Drifting
Hi,

Trying build 3094 on a MacBook Pro and with XP in the Parallels environment. MBP has 2Gb.

Seen a couple of posts on this topic. My cursor also drifts to bottom right of screen in build 3036 and also now in build 3094. Makes the environment unusable.

Have checked the Acceleration settings in XP as suggested in another post but these were as the poster recommended anyway. Problem occurrs whether I use Coherence or not. Although, I do think it is somehow related to screen resolution, as if I try to set the resolution, the problem occurrs immediately.

Problem only seems to go away if I de-install and re-install Parallel Tools. But then it returns within a minute or so of using the environment.

Any thoughts from anyone -- or should I just go back to build 1970 and wait for a better beta?

Thank you All.

iSight still dead
I upgraded from 3036 and no issues, but the iSight camera is still dead in 3094. It works fine in the current shipping release and has broken in 3036 and now 3094.

I tried re-installing the Mac - Win Drivers CD and no luck.

It does try and install it and says "Ready to use" when you select it from the USB icon, but it then says "it may not function properly"..

You hear it connect then disconnect immediately.

Still wondering if anyone has XP installed on a PATA drive in the second optical bay and has it working with the new Parallels build. I can not get Parallels to see the Boot Camp drive but I can boot to XP just fine using the option boot method.

If I have to install XP on a SATA drive that is not a problem. Just want to know if it should be able to run through Parallels on a PATA drive.

thanks, john

USB MIDI doesn't work
Though this update is very good; the USB MIDI doesn't work. I'd love to get my keyboard working under Parallels. As a work around, I'm using ipMIDI.

When I try to start the Rhapsody jukebox, it crashes. Don't know why it happens- worked fine under the old version of Parallels.

After installing Beta 2 Windows XP insisted to be activated again. Problem is I had to use the telphone routine and there were some red X's (like on a web page when the image file is missing from the web server) that covered up the numnber I would need to give to Microsoft. So I had to go back to Beta 1 for now since I have no way to activate. It reminded me why I switched to the Mac and gave up on Windows except for those few programs I still need it for.

Beta2
I got beta 2 installed without much trouble for my existing XP instances. Tried three times to make it work for BootCamp partition without success. Last time I lo:mad:  st keyboard and mouse functionality. I did not have Tools for Bootcamp installed. I plugged in a USB keyboard and mouse, rebooted into safe mode and restored, so I did not lose much. In Parallels the bootcamp partition also did not have keyboard or mouse, so I just deleted it. Not much luck with USB devices either. The Apple modem installed but then my mouse and keyboard locked until I disconnected it. I also tried a Prolific serial to usb adapter, and it seemed to install but not work.

Very slow & Hangs
with the new build I was able to get the program to run on my fat32 partition.

I'm running at nearly full memory usage with the vm. Windows runs sluggish, and then when I go back into Mac, I get nearly 100% memory and CPU usage. I've tried a variety of memory settings allocated to the vm, and nothing seems to improve the performance. I'm especially worried about burning out my fan. I've even had to yank out the plug a couple of times.

OK, so I found the (or a) problem:

I had to stop running the apple keyboard manager (kbdmgr.exe) which was installed with the bootcamp tools when I created the bootcamp partition. It fixed the cpu and memory problems.

This problem only started when I ran Wxp in the vm, so I think there may be some clash with the parallels tools/keyboard drivers.

I hope this makes sense to someone.

Above mentioned page states : "If you are a current Parallels Desktop for Mac user this Update will use your existing activation key. New users need to get a trial key to use the software."

This is completely UNTRUE.

If you are a current UK Parallels Desktop for Mac user, this Update will NOT use your existing activation key...

You have to be a US Parallels Desktop for Mac user to get this work.

Why ? That's really a good question...

Does anybody know the answer ???

UK Keyboard on MacBook Pro
Dear Parallels

The 3094 release works like a charm on my UK MacBook Pro except that they keyboard mappings are all a bit screwy!

The UK keyboard has an extra key compared to the U.S. version.

I see that Parallels have added some UK support as the £ key is now available, however the following keys are swapped around: -

` and § (the key to the left of number 1 and the key to the right of the left-shift key).

In addition, the new default mapping means that it is not possible to type <ALT GR> <2> which gives the Euro symbol. I know that there is a hack for this, but it would be good for this to be an option in the GUI rather than through the command line.

Many thanks once again for creating such a wonderful product!

Regards

JB

Ah good, it isn't just me then. I saw another thread with a similar discussion. Any possibility of a workaround for this, or can us poor Europeans get a second temporary activation number until a fix appears?

Hi Trotsky

I have spoken to dozens of UK users (including many Apple staff at the Apple Store Regent Street, London) who all have the same problem with the new beta.

I don't understand what you mean about the second temporary activation number?

My two week activation number for the beta dies on the 28th - I bought my box product based on the quality of the previous beta release. I'll have to "downgrade" to the box version until this is fixed in beta or final release.

This is a bit of a problem as I'm trying to work out how I can outsource my University's Exchange mail system when all the outsource companies appear to need some way of handling .pst files which precludes the use of Entourage. 200+ Mac users are making that difficult but the few to whom I showed the Coherence mode of Parallels Desktop running Outlook would have bitten my hand off to have it :-( Now I can't demonstrate it when the University gets going again...

command-azxcv keys === how to undo previous swap hack
Several months ago I had swapped the control and command keys
to deal with copy-paste-etc compatibility.
With the new azxcv transparency feature,
that was worse than unnecessary-- it made the control keys inaccessible.
I couldn't remember how I'd done the mapping,
so to undo the damage I removed the registry key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout\Scancode Map

See
http://searchwinit.techtarget.com/ti...962513,00.html
and
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device...kscan-map.mspx

(I'd had problems with the popular InputRemapper .)

This IS better, and worth the trouble to undo the previous swapping,
to get finger consistency.
(Especially since students sometimes do presentations from my Parallels XP installation.)
