Nasty usability bug: Once "Start VM automatically ..." is checked, config is stuck!!
I've come across this seemingly obviously, extremely anoying and rather severe bug with Parallels. I'm using the latest RC2 build where the problem still exists.

To duplicate:

1. Open a VM or create a new one.
2. Edit the VM configuration. Go to Options -> Booting and check Start VM automatically when it is opened.
3. Start the VM.

Now, try editing the VM configuration again. If the VM is running, it tells you to stop it before editing the configuration. Problem is once you stop the VM, Parallels closes the VM and quits (if its the last VM running). I've tried every option I can think of but for the life of me I can't figure out how to stop the VM without Parallels quitting or closing it. This means there is no way to edit the configuration of the VM once this option is set

This is really silly guys - did anyone do ANY testing on feature? I love this product like most people here but this is truely anoying. My main VM is stuck with 512MB of ram until this is fixed!

Thanks for listening.

Look for a file in your <username>\Parallels\<HDimagename>\

folder that is called <HDimagename>.pvs

Find the lines:

Start auto = 1
AutoShutdown = 0

and set them how you want: ie, 1 is TRUE, whereas 0 is FALSE.

So set AutoShutdown = 0 and you won't have Parallesl shutdown when you shutdown the VM. Alternatively, you could set Start auto = 0 and be able to edit the configuration before the VM starts up.

This issue has been reported COUNTLESS times by various people. It's obvious the Parallels team simply doesn't care about usability. Who in their right mind would accept the fact that you need to manually edit a configuration file in order to change this setting???

Logitech Drivers 10.5 Not Working
Still no success with the latest Logitech Drivers for the Fusion camera. Installed 10.5 and all works until the camera switches on. After about 5 seconds you get the BSOD.

Last time I was told v10 works fine but I haven't got these available. Can anyone provide a copy?

I see from other posts that some Garmin GPSs are now working with this update. Unfortunately my Garmin Rino 530 GPS is still not recognized by Mapsource, even though the USB device is acknowledged as a Garmin device.

I've got an issue using Multiple displays and coherance. My secondary display is not the same resolution as the first and the screen actually has different physical dimensions. Because of this I have the monitor phsyically positioned lower than my main monitor and it's adjusted accordingly in the Mac OS monitor position pane.

The problem is Parallels doesn't recognize this and as such on my left screen I'm missing the top 2/3 of everything.

Got 3150 up and running (yay!) Issues and problems are noted below:

On first starting 3150, it prompted me for the administrator password (my account is not an admin account.) Is this intentional and necessary? Apps don't generally require an admin password to launch. Of course, Parallels is no ordinary app so maybe it does. If this behavior is a surprise to the development team, I would suggest that the developers run Parallels from a non-admin account and see if its behavior is what they want it to be.

When I first tried to start it, I had two Windows compatible hard disks (actually partitions); a FAT32 disk I used for transferring between Windows and Mac, and an NTFS disk that had Windows on it. This confused Parallels and caused it to put up an error message. I unmounted the FAT32 volume, restarted Parallels and it ran. I than shut Parallels down, re-mounted the FAT32 disk, and re-started Parallels. It ran again. However, Windows can't see the FAT32 disk, nor does there seem to be an option for adding it to the configuration. Obviously it would be desirable for multiple Windows hard disks worked correctly.

At first had trouble with mouse capture: when I had Parallels capture the mouse, the cursor was frozen, but the keyboard worked. The problem went away when I shut down Parallels (using entirely Windows keyboard shortcuts to shut down Windows, since I was mouse-less) and re-started it.

That's it for now.

Can someone help me with the problem that I posted on many pages ago? When I try to boot from my Boot Camp partition it says that no operating system is installed on the partition. That's not true! Windows works perfectly in Boot Camp!

I had the same problem. CONFIG\SYSTEM file was corrupted. Have you tried booting off a WindowsXP install disk and run the repair. It worked for me.

RC2 installed.. another windows activation?!
Hi,

Just installed RC2, since I wanted to be able to use my Bootcamp partition. But now, its asking me to activate windows again, and of course, I can't activate with my number twice!! What should I do, and why do I have to activate windows again?

Just did a fresh install of RC2 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, still using just under
50% CPU with an idle guest OS. Please Parellels fix this longstanding problem.

Network connections
Also, though not used it long enough, I no longer need to have and actual mapped folder open for Outlook to work with my mapped drive.

But time will tell.

Well so much for that.... same issue. I still have to open the mapped drive folder to keep Outlook from losing the connection.

PLEASE fix this issue.

Thanks,

Allow full maximization of windows in Coherence mode
Hello,

Would it be possible to allow windows to be maximized to the full size of the screen (sans menu bar [and Dock if 'exclude dock' isn't selected]) when in Coherence mode with the Windows taskbar not shown? Currently, when you maximize a window it leaves space for the Windows taskbar even if you've unchedked the "Show Windows Taskbar" option.

I've noticed that if you have the taskbar properties in Windows set to "auto hide," you CAN fully maximize. I'd like the taskbar to not be hidden in Fullscreen, or OS Window mode, though. Perhaps you could fudge the implementation by simply setting the windows taskbar properties to auto hide when entering coherence mode and setting them back when entering Fullscreen or OS Window mode.

Thank you,
Aaron

Build 3150 sharing VMs between users
I have a personal user and business user on my MBP. I share one VM between the two. I upgraded Paralells to 3150 from 1760 (or whatever the latest GA version was), and used it to start my tax return with TurboTax for Windows just fine. (Coherence is great!)

After shutting down the VM in my personal account, I switched to my business account and tried to start the VM there. I get the following error:

"Unable to allocate virtual machine memory!

This error may occur mostly if there is no enough free disk space available on the physical disk to allocate virtual machine paging file. Try to clean up the physical disk (remove unnecessary files). If it doesn't help, try to re-install Parallels Desktop."

I have 30GB out of 110GB available on my drive. I can still start the VM just fine under the personal account. Repair permissions didn't help. I suppose I can reinstall under the business user, but I'm not sure why that should be necessary.

On the nitpick side of things, there is one typo and another grammatical error in the above error message; "no" should be "not", and there should be a "the" before the "virtual machine paging file".

is there a possibility now to use my DOS formatted bootcamp image with parallels? if not, besides all those great features, it's of no use for me :/
