So Parallels has spent the last 4 hours on "Searching for new devices (Step 2 of 4). Does it take this long or is it dead? I didn't back up my parallels hard drive, because I didn't have anywhere big enough to put it. Now I'm very worried.

    Hi TAHARVEY,

Press and hold these 4 keys simultaneously.
Control + Command + Options + R. You will get another option to upgrade manually. Continue manual upgradation .

    This should fix the issue.

    Hi there,

I had the exact same problem, it turned out there was an open dialog warning me that Windows XP needs to be re-activated in the next 3 days because of hardware changes.

It was simple enough to follow Peter's advice, switch to manual mode, dismiss the dialog and then Parallels took over and everything was fine...

    Super happy.

    Thanks!
    Ant

PS: I had to drop into Manual Mode whenever this pesky dialog came up, so Installation took a bit longer than expected
