This Release Excels at Multitasking I upgraded from Built 3109 to 3170. I am on a Macbook Pro, Intel Core Duo 2.16 GHz, 2 GB RAM. I am able to open 20 applications in OSX (including MS Words, Matlab 2007, Safari, Firefox, etc.), and at the same time more than 10 programs in VM Windows XP. Both iTunes and Windows Media Player 10 are playing among all these opened programs, while I am composing this message. It is truly amazing. Yes, built in iSight works in Parallels, and I can do AV message with people stuck with PCs. Thank you for such a killer app. Feng |

still that problem with application quit when shutdown the VM :( I dont know why my paralleles do that. I saw it on other machines and there is all ok. I've unchecked the options "leave application at VM shutdown" but parallels always quit after VM shutdown :( same with start option. everybody know why? :( |

USB works with Nokia E60 with autoconnect! Congratulations RC3 looks to be ready for prime time as far as I can see. USB support for Nokia E-series phones has always been downright flaky -- until now. 1. Manual connect to E60 phone works solidly through several connect/disconnect cycles. WinXP and Nokia PC Suite recognize the actions reliably. 2. Full backup of phone contents completed several times with no problems. So did Contact Management, and check for Nokia firmware update. 3. But ... the big news is that Autoconnect also works now, and solidly. Previously, and especially in RC2, this caused a Parallels app crash -- immediate and with no warning messages, just a record in the Crash log. Now Autoconnect works perfectly reliably. 4. Tested as follows: Insert USB with E60, recognized. Pull USB, disconnected normally Insert USB mass storage, recognized Disconnect mass storage using "My Computer" eject function, disconnected normally Re-insert E60, recognized Pull E60, disconnected normally. No crashes. No sign of instability. This version also seems MUCH faster than RC2. Congratulations! __________________ MacBook Pro, 2.13GHz Core Duo, 2GB RAM, 120GB disk Mac OS 10.5.6 Parallels 4 (3810) (no BootCamp partition) * WinXP SP3, 768MB RAM * shared networking * USB is set for "ask me" |

USB don't work with Nokia E61 what an exciting status that would be, having the Nokia PC Suite capable of recoginzing my E61! The Windows' status bar shows the phone, no matter whether "autodetect" on or off - but the "Get Connected Wizzard" of the PC Suite simply waits... Tested with MacBook Pro 2,33 c2d, 10.4.8 all updates Windows 2000 SP4 all updates Nokia PC Suite 6.82 latest release Is in particular for USB connectivity XP "better"...? Regards, KSW |

KSW, USB support in XP _is_ better than that in Win2K. That may explain why I can connect my E60 (with WinXP SP2) and you have no luck with Win2K. My suggestions: 1. Try uninstall/reinstall of the Nokia PC Suite 2. If all else fails, move to XP (if that's possible for you). First thing i noticed was that the E62 popped up as connected, immediately as plugged it in and selected the appropriate connection on the device. (Parallels set to auto connect, and it stole the device immediately) |

Coherence Multiple Displays Quirk (MacBook) I had not tried using multiple displays on any earlier build until this one, so I don't know if this is new or unaddressed behavior. In coherence mode (which is just fantastic, Team Parallels!) the only way multiple displays can be made available to Parallels is if the display with the menu bar is the top monitor. In my case, my MacBook sits just below a 19" HP display, and the MacBook is the display with the menu bar. Picture 3.jpg Turning on coherence in this configuration, I cannot drag Windows windows UP to the HP display. If I go into OSX Displays setting, and move the HP display under the MacBook, I can drag Windows windows DOWN to the HP display--rather jarring and unnatural being that the HP display is ABOVE the MacBook's: Picture 1.jpg Alternately, if I move the MENU BAR to the HP display, I can now move any coherence windows windows down to the MacBook's display: Picture 2.jpg Unfortunately, performance really seemed to take a hit SYSTEM-WIDE when I did this, plus I just prefer having a bigger empty deskspace on top. On a separate note, trying to congigure either of the displays to sit side-by-side bought up a message from Parallels... Unable to switch to Coherence Mode. Primary operating system does not support screen resolution requested by guest operating system. Select another resolution for the guest operating system or review your video system configuration. ...and it went into OS window mode. It would be nice if you could move coherence windows anywhere you wanted. |

I think since Apple sells a ton of notebooks, being able to use coherence with multiple displays at differing resolutions should be a high priority. Having an external display the same size as the notebook is probably the exception. I sounded pretty upset about the whole beta/RC thing before. I love that the team is pumping out these awesome new features, and I really appreciate that they are all free upgrades for existing customers. I just can't wrap my head around how they name the releases. I think I came off as a jerk, sorry about that. |

No Jerk, just vocal. Coherence is an awesome feature and it needs to work correctly. so far it limits us. I am planning to move to a 3 monitor set up and would love for it to work properly. I would love to be able to run this rig with a mixture of my OS X charting software and Windows trading platforms... http://digitaltigers.com/zenview-arena-ultrahd.shtml |

Video support could be better - Need DirectX9 I use MediaShout, a powerful presentation app for use in churches etc for media rich quick change presentations. MediaShout works okay in Parallels. There are three problems with Parallels that I have found. 1. Parallels doesn't support true dual displays, so Parallels can't be used to actually "present" a presentation on a second display. (Therefore when presenting you have to switch to BootCamp). 2. MediaShout has built in preview screens (small windows that show the actual presentation) within the application. Video does not display on the preview screens. There is also an overlay preview screen that displays the video "overlayed on top" of the application. That doesn't work either with video. 3. The latest (and apparently all forth coming) versions of MediaShout REQUIRE DirectX9 video card support. You can't even install the latest MediaShout version if DirectX9 isn't supported. Bummer, because I use MediaShout on my Macbook Pro to build presentations before taking to the show to run on the big mama PC system at the show. Items 1 and 3 can be worked around using Bootcamp, but would like to stay in the Mac. Item 3 is really a hassle because we use a lot of Mac features when building presentations, and can't preview within MediaShout/Parallels the video. Just putting in my desire to see the video side of Parallels to be improved. Thanks for a very good application. |

I have a question (though I might get yelled at..... Have you tried Media Shout under VMware??? I know VMware Fusion doesnt have coherence mode, but it may work. I noticed OS's under vmware run a bit faster than they do under Parallels. Understand People. I am a DAILY Parallels user (EVERYDAY ALL DAY LONG) But I sometimes check stuff in VMware so I can get my request list to parallels worked out. :) Of course some things are based on the video card emulation that Parallels is working on so we get true 3D graphic support. I use Fusion as a troubleshooting program. I use Parallels as my work horse. in percentages VM 1% parallels 99% (ok enough of my disclaimer. LOL) Just a thought |

Keynote (Apple iWork) instad of MediaShout? Did you check whether Keynote (Apple iWork) could not do what you want? Might be easier than troubleshooting Windows programs. |

Tools Install After Suspend Why, with RC1, RC2 and now RC3, after I open a suspended desktop, it wants to reinstall Parallels Tools? I'm surprised it's not fixed. Very simply, if you're running in Coherence and you choose Actions->Suspend and then reopen the session the Parallels tools installer comes on. |
