I can't update the current cd build of parallels 4 3049 to latest version of 4 (3836) Have tried using check for updates section on menu and it goes through the procedure but the installation crashes. Have tried looking for the dmg file on your website as suggested to resolve this issue but now 5 is out the last update is no longer available under downloads!!!! I don't wish to 'have to purchase' an upgrade to get this working again after migrating to snow leopard until I am sure of a working setup. Please advice what to do . Thanks Robin Bassett ACSP Farnborough College of Technology
Robin, I assume you are on Snow Leopard. Unfortunately, build 3049 was incompatible with Snow Leo which prevents it from upgrading properly. Here is what you need to do. 1. Perform check for updates 2. The installer will crash 3. Stop any virtual machines if they are running and quit Parallels Desktop. 4. Now search for the Parallels Desktop installer .dmg file. It is either on your Mac's Desktop, or in Downloads folder. If you can't find it, try searching using Spotlight, the keyword is "ParallelsDesktop" without space between the words. 5. You need to find a file named somehow like "ParallelsDesktop-novadevelopment-en_US-3846-..." 6. Once found, click it and run "Install" from the opened window. This time it will upgrade.
And what if the 'novadevelopment' file doesn't exist? As is the case on my Macbook. Is it a hidden file?
