What info can I provide to help Parallels with kernel panics ?
I know this will probably be a stupid question to a lot of the people on this forum....

I too had a kernel panic today with Beta 2..... what logs or info can I send to Parallels to help them fix the issue ?

Hello,

The following info will be MUCH appreciated:
1. Open Applications->Utilities->System Profiler. In System Profiler find Software->Logs->panic.log. This is the file containing necessary technical information about the panic.
2. Description of what you were doing that time. Any special actions? Any other info you think might be important?

Please send this staff to reports@parallels.com. Use this mailbox for kernel panic reports only please.

What if I checked for the panic.log and it's not there? At the time of the problem I was installing a Solaris 10 image from CD and opened another to try and install from a DVD image on my hard drive. I also had a 3rd VM open running Fedora Core 5. It was sitting at the command prompt. The machine just rebooted with no warning. Any ideas what I could send for this situation?

marktchurch, panic.log is generated only in case you've seen the "Gray Screen" and had to reboot your machine manually. In case of the reboot caused by the software (we call it "Black Screen") no panic.log is generated.

In your very situation - I think what you have already provided is enough - we'll try to reproduce the same in our testing lab.

Pasting the panic log
In beta 2 I still can't paste the panic log into the report a problem window - it gets pasted as garbage mixed with Chinese characters.

This is what my log says, it was caused while quitting Parallels after a painful and slow process of suspending my windows session (with the green pause button), it took like 10 minutes to 'save' the session and some other 10 min to 'restore' it render the whole computer unstable, especially while saving, then I log out from windows, quit PW and the kernel panic happened:

This is one of the little (not sure if you could call a kernel panic little) problems I had with beta2, but I can use AirPort now and I'm so happy with Parallels, it's such a great product.

Lockup during install/upgrade, no panic
My 17" iMac Core Duo locked up while updating to Beta 2. First the mouse became unresponsive and the machine wouldn't let me ssh in. Then after a few seconds it stopped responding to ping.

I don't have a panic.log. What information should I send?

Thanks!

mitchman,

Thanks. This is a known issue. Now it is recommended to reboot your host and repeat the upgrade process. We apologize for the inconvinience.

what a GREAT question! I was just sitting there watching the kernel panics and it never occurred to me to ask such a productive question. I just sent 2 crashes from yesterday onto the team. It's fun to be helping!

I've also seen many of these kernel panics on my iMac using en0 with a VPN connection active in Windows XP. I've never seen it happen on my MacBook Pro using en1. I even found one today when I got back from lunch with the iMac idle, but Outlook open in Windows with the VPN connection.
