Now that microsoft no longer offers updates for XP, will it still be safe to use XP or should I upgrade to windows 7 or 8?
Hi EdwinE, You can upgrade your Windows to 7 or 8 as Microsoft Support for Windows XP will end on April 8th and you wont be receiving any Updates for Windows XP. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/enterprise/end-of-support.aspx Upgrade to Windows 8.1 which is the latest version of Microsoft Windows. Windows 7 look can be enabled in order to Windows 8.1 to appear like Windows 7 for convenience by following the steps as suggested at http://kb.parallels.com/116716 Please follow the steps as suggested at http://kb.parallels.com/120737 to Upgrade. Thanks, Abdul
If I chose not to upgrade to windows 8.1, and continue XP only to access pc software, such as quickbooks, is my computer at risk for hackers and viruses without microsoft updates and security?
Edwin, I am on XP in Parallels and especially for using Quickbooks 2006, which i love and don't want to 'be forced' by Microsoft and especially Intuit to upgrade to Win 8 and a more recent version of QB. So, I installed Windows7 in Parallels, which is still supported by Microsoft, and my QBooks works great on it. I am however, still on OS X Snow Leopard and from what i have read, have no plans to upgrade to Mavericks. I did, however, upgrade to Parallels 9, which runs slower so far, but i tweaked Parallels from what i have read here, especially in the 'Configure' menu under 'Virtual Machines" and that has helped. Before, Windows 7 was running sluggish, but is much quicker now. Hope this helps
Hi EdwinE, Please follow the article below to know what happens once support expires for Windows XP: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/eos Thanks, Looran
Thanks for the link. If I'm not accessing internet using windows explorer, only for software apps like quickbooks and quicken),am I still vulnerable to security risks using XP?
