    hi there,
i am using parallel desktop 13.3 on macbook pro, os high sierra, updated version.....i have installed windows 10 on bootcamp.

parallel share folder doesn't work when windows is operating directly from bootcamp...it gives an error msg " Windows cannot access Mac network"...by which i am unable to transfer or copy files etc...from mac folder to windows folder

when logged out of bootcamp and work with windows 10 on mac os via parallel desktop...the share folder opens and i can transfer, review, copy files etc..between both OS....

so why does parallel share folder doesn't function in bootcamp...

    would appreciate your help.

Hello DavidC47. Just to be clear, you are saying that when working with Windows natively within the boot camp partition, you don't get to see the Parallels share folder and thus can't transfer your Mac files into Windows, correct?

    Hi DavidC47,
Parallels Shared Folder will not work in native Bootcamp as Parallels Desktop will not be running in when you are in Bootcamp. When you are in macOS, Parallels Desktop will be running on it Parallels virtual machine which is configured to access Bootcamp will let you access Windows and at the same time macOS will be running so you can access Mac partition from Windows but when you are in Bootcamp, macOS and Parallels Desktop will not be running so Parallels Shared folder will not work.

    hi Ajith,
    oh..oh...this is very bad news....
then how come PSF, icloud, photos etc...directories can be seen/viewed even on bootcamp...

and whats the point of installing windows on bootcamp and using PD when a user cannot view the content of other partition (BC to MacHD in this case).. as a i user, i can view BC partition from Mac os (only read, but cannot copy/write/transfer)

working with windows on bootcamp is very fast, then working on same partition (windows with mac os)....this is very slow...

there's got to be a way to access MacHD partition from Bootcamp.....

    thanks
    david

    Hi DavidC47,
You can check with any VM software but accessing a partition which is not actively running (Mac OS side from Bootcamp) is not possible and Parallels Desktop will not be running when you access Bootcamp directly as it is a Mac application. When you are in Mac side Mac Disk Utility will display Bootcamp partition as Windows partition is created by a Mac feature called Bootcamp Assistant. Parallels Desktop acts as a bridge to that visible partition(already visible under Disk Utility) when you are on Mac side
but Windows will not display Mac partition in Disk Management and there is no software like Parallels Desktop is running on Windows to access Mac partition.

    hi Ajith,

hmmm... thanks for this explanation !! i get it...
my appeal - apart from bridging visible or invisible partition, it would be very helpful to users accessing visible & invisible partitions (read, copy, write) from both OS..
we know, VM is good but it's slow....and bootcamp is much faster then VM, but without access....It is very unlikely for apple/bootcamp to add this feature..let's hope..

Also, windows work much better and faster on mac computers then on a non-mac. all users don't prefer to work on mac os only..and if using VM like PD, it should be able to give me access to both partitions

just a thought - why am i seeing parallel-share folder on my desktop, icloud & photo's folder in windows explorer, all mac os application in Windows start program, when i am unable to access/use non of it ? this function/feature should work and be applicable only to VM users working with both os simultaneously. why are these non-accessible folders/apps showing on an inactive partition...

    thanks

    Hi DavidC47,
We understand but accessing Mac from Bootcamp Windows this feature needs to be allowed or developed by Microsoft. If you understand my previous explanation then you will also understand when you configured to use Bootcamp Windows in a VM on Parallels Desktop you have allowed sharing applications which are done by installing Parallels Tools in the VM which can be undone in Bootcamp by uninstalling Parallels Tools from Control Panel manually. When you use Bootcamp VM again in Parallels Desktop you have to reinstall Parallels Tools for sharing features to work again.

    Hi DavidC47,
You have to understand Bootcamp is running Windows on a physical hardware and a virtual machine is running Windows on a virtualized hardware. You want a VM feature to work on physical installation it is only possible if Microsoft and Apple develop a feature or an application. You can raise it as a feature request to Microsoft and Apple.

    hi Ajith,

Yes, i knew the reason for these folders/apps to be visible on bootcamp windows partition, is due to Parallel tools...and my point was, this feature should be adhered to VM only.

By installing parallel tools on VM (active partition on mac os), still gives access to folders/apps on Bootcamp (inactive partition), tells me there is a possibility of connecting visible/invisible partition thru parallel tools or parallel access, but it cannot find mac network address....(sending you a screen shot, if you can help to find correct mac network address)

As a user, my purpose of using bootcamp is, cuz its fast....And to use PD is, so i can access partitions..(active/inactive)
Presently i am use usb stick to transfer/copy files etc. between OS....which is time consuming....and there's no point uninstalling parallel tools for bootcamp and reinstalling for VM....it's like better-off with PD....it doesn't make sense

hope parallel desktop comes up with something good on this subject rather then relying on apple/microsoft, which is very unlikely...

Hi DavidC47, Parallels Tools will only work if Parallels Desktop is running but in native Bootcamp Parallels Desktop will not be running as it is installed on Mac partition. Parallels Desktop has nothing to do with the feature you are requesting and it is not possible with any virtualization software for now. Trying to access Mac partition from Bootcamp is like trying to access a turned off PC(as the Mac partition is inactive) via a network and will give the same error. Also, Bootcamp is visible from the Mac side as it is created from the Mac side. You can check the Bootcamp partition details from Mac's Disk Utility but cannot do the same for Mac from Windows Disk Management. If it is visible then a software can be developed to access Mac from Windows. A PC or Mac will only get a network address from router/switch/modem when it is running not when it is shut down so it is not possible to get a network address for Mac.

    hi Ajith,

Yes, trying to access mac partition from bootcamp is very much possible... after lot of findings, i came across two 3rd party apps...
    a) paragon extfs for mac, b) paragon hfs+ for windows (unlock features)

i've installed app (a) on high sierra, app (b) on BC windows 10....and these 2 apps are amazing...just what i was looking for
i can see my macintosh hd drive on windows 10 now, and can access each n every folders/files smoothly from both OS - can copy/edit/move/delete/transfer...etc....from both OS........you too can try and check

I just wanted to inform you, its possible.. You don't need to wait for apple & microsoft to give us these features..

Parallel desktop is a 3rd party app..If it can tap into windows 10 via Parallel tools (cuz i can see couple of mac folders already on bootcamp partition, as explained earlier), then just integrate "extfs driver for mac" on mac partition, and "hfs+ drivers for windows" on bootcamp partition
