I have been on release channel versions for a long time getting regular OS updates, but these seem to have stopped.
I am on Windows 11 Pro, 21H2, OS build 22000.2538
I think I have got left behind as I see mentions of 22H2 and 23H2.
    Thanks for any help.

My system was stuck on on 22H2, using this method I was able to bring it up to 24H2. The fix was basically effortless and it means that Windows can continue to receive the security updates that were stalled by being on an outdated build. I did a backup before the update, but the new system installed on top of the existing one with no noticeable issues.

    Hello Mike,

You can get the latest Windows 11 ARM build, by either
    1. Starting your virtual machine.
    2. Select Start > Settings > Windows Update, then select Check for updates.
    3. Wait for your updates to complete the installation

OR creating a new virtual machine.
    1. Launch Parallels Desktop.
    2. Click on the Parallels icon in the Mac menu bar > Control Center > click on the + sign on the top right corner of Control Center
    3. Wait for the installation assistant window to come up and select "Get Windows 11 from Microsoft".
    4. On the "Download and Install Windows 11" page, click the "Install Windows" button.
    5. Windows will begin downloading, wait for it to finish.
    6. Parallels Desktop Installation assistant will begin installing windows, please wait for the process to complete.
    7. When the installation is complete, you will be presented with the Microsoft EULA. Click I accept to complete the process.

Make sure that you have "get the newest updates" toggled on in the Windows Update settings. (It's possible that the toggle is not available on your old build.)
If you still can't download the 23H2 update, check the instructions to force the update here and change 22H2 to 23H2.

Thanks. The first method is the standard Windows Update way I have been updating regularly for last two years, but has now been saying I am up to date for a few weeks. This is why, on discovering that 22H2 and 23H2 exist, I asked.

Should Windows Update be giving me 22H2 or 23H2 at this time ?

Is it a matter of just waiting for Windows Update? I am happy to do that but wanted to check I am not in a dead end branch of the Update paths?

In theory, yes. But I wasn't able to get either 22H2 or 23H2 without forcing the update.

Thanks again. In 21H2 there is no option to "get the newest updates". So I updated to 22H2 with the gpedit method in your link. 22H2 does show the "get newest updates" but it is greyed out because it is "not available due to your organisations policy".

So I updated to 23H2 by the gpedit method again.

Do you know how to enable the organisation policy to enable "get the newest updates" ?

    Thanks again for great help.

I used the method in https://www.elevenforum.com/t/enabl...s-as-soon-as-available-in-windows-11.13821/#2 to turn on "get newest updates". That's successfully turned it on but it is still greyed out due to Group Policy. I can't change the slider off/on, so would be grateful for any info about changing my group policy.

I have solved this. In the Windows Update section of Group Policy editor, ("Local Computer Policy\Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Update" chose "Manage Updates offered from Windows Update". Then chose "Enable optional updates". In the pane that opens chose "Users can select which optional updates to receive" in dropdown on the left. The notes about this say:-
    • If "Users can select which optional updates to receive" is selected, users can select which optional updates to get by visiting Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates. Users can also enable the toggle "Get the latest updates as soon as they're available" to automatically receive optional updates and gradual feature rollouts.
I can now use the on/off slider to get updates as soon as available.

here is a much easier solution that worked for me. 1st, stop your windows 11 install. don't delete it. create a new install and pick download from Microsoft. Getting an arm image from other sources usually fails to install. after the download finishes, and the automatic install starts, an iso image should have appeared in your downloads folder. pause the install by closing the windows in parallels window then copy this image to another location before parallels tries to delete it. then abort the install and the vm should automatically be deleted, you can abort by right clicking the second windows 11 install in your vm list.

Now, boot your regular windows 11 vm again and navigate to the iso you now have. Please note, attempting to mount an iso from a folder that's shared from Mac to windows doesn't work. so copy the iso image to another location in windows, such as the root of drive C. now mount it, run setup per normal, and wait. In my testing this works about 85% of the time. sorry about the remaining 15 but this is windows, it is known for getting screwy and sometimes not wanting to upgrade due to something being broken in your windows install. this iso is custom built for parallels, so has all the modifications and drivers needed to properly boot in parallels on arm processors, I suggest keeping a copy now that you have it in case you ever need it again.

BrandonS19's solution worked perfectly for me. Just downloaded the ISO to my mac downloads as directed, pulled it over to my Parallels C: drive and ran it. Now my Windows 11 is fully up- to-date.

My VM is up to 23H2 (and Parallels is the current most updated version). I cannot get it to go to 24H2. I have tried the "registry edits" from another post. I have tried the "permissions" suggestion (I think that is what it was called) and that didn't work either. (1) will Brandon's solution of using a new ISO work to go from 23H2 to 24H2 and (2) is the upgrade from 23H2 to 24H2 worth the effort as my 23H2 runs perfectly and runs whatever I need Windows 11 to run (aside from various DirectX 12 games). Thanks

I just spent some time with your instructions. Went easier than I thought when I first read them, and didn't take all that long (though I did go out for a bit of it LOL). After the VM finished I only had to update the Parallels tools (funny how some updates Parallels will automatically update Parallels Tools and some it will require to do it manually) and everything seems great. (Now just have to wait for Parallels to fix their Direct X 12 issues and wait to see what happens the next time Microsoft releases their next "feature update".)

About 5 posts before mine in this same thread, there is a post from BrandonS19 with the full instructions that I followed and it worked.

Can you con firm the post number you're referring to, please?
I'm getting very confused trying to figure out who's referring to whose post and what the latest suggested solution actually is.
    I've tried the registry hack and it doesn't work for me, I'm stuck on this;

Edition Windows 11 Pro Insider Preview
    Version 23H2
    Installed on ‎02/‎02/‎2024
    OS build 26040.1000
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26040.1000.0

No amount of windows update will resolve the message saying, I'm using a version that expired on 15/09/24

So, I get as far as downloading the iso and aborting the Parallels installation, it downloads a file to the downloads folder called "26100.2033.241004-2336.ge_release_svc_refresh_CLIENTCONSUMER_RET_A64FRE_en-us"
I copy it to the root of drive C.
When i open it, it mounts it as a DVD drive with the name "esd2iso.1523DD47-86B5-435F-AB2F-"
When I double click on this file it shows the contents, with a file called "setup" as an application.
When I double click on this I am asked to confirm that I would like to allow it to make changes on my computer.
When I do this, it looks like it is about to start doing something, with a windows logo appearing, but this then disappears and nothing then happens ? Screenshot 2025-01-17 at 15.21.34.png
