    1. I just updated parallels tools via the actions menu and upon restarting the virtual machine, certain settings weren't available, such as certain display resolutions (the virtual machine desktop is too big for my screen and is cut off at either side, max resolution available is 600x800). I figured this might be b/c I need to update the software, so in addition to requesting information on how to resolve this, my second question is:

    2. Does updating Parallels software (as downloaded from the check updates function) require reinstallation of all programs in the virtual machine?

never mind, found it! i reinstalled parallels tools, and my virtual machine appears as it did before.

is there anything i should note before updating the newest version of parallels as downloaded from the updates panel?

Nothing special, the only thing that CD-DVD should be connected, in order to reinstall Parallels Tools
