My product licence for KIS 6.0 which was included with Parellels 3 is about to expire, so I bought a subscription to KIS 2009 (version 8). However, every time I try to install it, if I select the option 'Express installation' then I get a message that Windows Installer has failed; if I go for 'Custom installation', the programme initially seems to install but then I get the BSOD. This has happened repeatedly, no matter what I try.

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate on an iMac 2.4 Ghz, with Mac OS X - had not had any problems prior to trying to upgrade KIS.

Anyone else had a similar problem or have any suggested solutions?

    Thanks for your response.

Parallels 3 does not support 64 bit installation, so I cannot install Windows Installer version 4.5. I have installed all the latest Windows updates appropriate for my system, including SP1. It seems more likely to be a Kaspersky issue, I suspect.

    There's a version for 32-bit if you look more carefully ( Windows6.0-KB942288-v2-x86.msu for 32bit Vista, WindowsXP-KB942288-v3-x86.exe for 32bit XP).

But if you have at least Windows Installer version 2.0 it should work, that's what it says at the system requirements page of KIS 2009.

Many thanks for this. After a system restore, I downloaded the latest Windows Installer, as well as Uniblue Registry Booster (which detected over 250 errors). Then I uninstalled the existing version of KIS, and tried again with KIS 2009 - success this time! No more BSOD - so far, at least! - and KIS seems to be working fine.

    Thanks again for the advice.
