Hello, I am trying to transport my windows XP software, all programs and data, to my imac using Parallels and transporter. XP transfers over ok using transporter, but fails to boot successfully - just hangs at about 10 seconds into startup with the Window XP logo and moving lines halted. I figured this is because XP is not activated for imac machine - so after reading over the forum messages, I attempted to do the XP repair installation procedure http://kb.parallels.com/en/5138, because I do in fact have a clean unused copy of Windows XP for a new computer. Stopped my VM and edited the CD/DVD-ROM as per the procedure, etc., then clicked ok to return to the stopped VM. Then inserted my clean XP windows home CD into the drive, and restarted my VM. The VM reports a failure to boot from CD/DVD-ROM drive - Boot from CD/DVD-ROM failed. It proceeds to boot from virtual disk and hangs in the same spot. My clean XP windows installation CD is bootable on a PC and comes up with the following options, when doing so: Set up Windows XP, Repair a Windows XP installation, or Quit Setup - so, apparently parallels and the VM interface require a different kind of bootable disk, a .iso perhaps. Problem: how to convert the windows XP installation disk to the bootable format recognized.

    1. Installation CD with integrated Service Pack the same level as installed on PC
    Process is called slipstreaming
    http://www.helpwithwindows.com/Windo...p2-bootcd.html
    2. Either use Parallels Transporter agent http://www.parallels.com/en/download...0.1456-Win.exe (you need to install Transporter agent)
and perform operation as described in http://www.parallels.com/en/download...User_Guide.pdf by migrating from Windows to PC
    3. Or use the same Windows Transporter and perform inplace migration (to external attached disk) and copy VM to Mac

    Method 3 is preferred

John, I followed the slipstreaming SP2 procedure in http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/winxp-sp2-bootcd.html using my PC, however used ImgBurn instead of Nero. ImgBurn created a disk with what looked like to be similar to the XP installation disk I originally tried with many files on it including setup.exe. I tried this in the mac and it failed to boot from CD/DVD-ROM again. Then, went back to the PC and managed to create a DVD with one file on it - a .iso. Then inserted it in my mac, started the VM from CD/DVD-ROM, and again it would fail to boot - Boot from CD/DVD-ROM failed. I notice that during this boot of the VM, I did not hear any access to the CD/DVD-ROM, and I believe the same thing happened with the clean XP installation disk I tried first, and second. Is it possible that my VM mapping to the drive on the Mac is incorrect.? If not, then what?

That allowed me to boot from CD/DVD-ROM, to start the repair procedure. But, after hitting setup, then R for repair, copying over the files to 100%, it reboots the VM, and hangs at the windows XP logo again. I then reboot the VM and boot from CD/DVD-ROM, hit setup again, then R again, then the OS to repair, then it ask gives me three options to retry upgrade, continue with a fresh install, or quit. I choose to retry upgrade. The point is no where does it ask me to enter a new product key - which is what I'm after. How can I use this repair procedure to enter a new product key?

John, I have the Product Key, I just don't know where or how to enter it during the repair procedure. No menu item comes up requesting it.

I am sorry, I cannot figure, at what moment you are being asked for key, is it possible to provide screenshot?
