I recently moved my Parallels folder from my Documents to an external HD. When I figured everything was working smooth enough, I deleted the Parallels folder on the internal HD. But then when I went to start up Parallels, it wanted me to re-install Windows...Thinking I screwed up, I re-installed XP. But when I went to my External HD Parallels folder and double clicked on the file, it launched my old XP. So, basically, now I have 2 XP installs: 1) My original one that's on the external HD and 2) the new one, which I can't for the life of me find. When I launch Parallels now, it asks me to choose which VM I want to launch. So my dilemma: When I installed the 2nd XP, I selected the option to share files and folders with mac (i.e. windows desktop is the same as mac desktop, windows my documents is the same folder as documents on the mac). I didn't realize this when I did my first install, so I think this would be a more efficient system for me. 1) If I keep original XP install - can I switch those settings to share the same desktop/folders as how I selected in install 2? How? 2) If I can't, can I keep XP install 2 - but move my programs from XP install 1 to XP install 2 - Note: I don't save anything on Windows. It's all (email, documents, etc..) is saved on the Mac side. I only have applications running on Windows. 3) If 1 is not an option, but 2 is...where is my 2nd install? My location to XP 1 is: /Volumes/Maxtor/Microsoft Windows XP. My location to XP 2 says it's: /Volumes/Maxtor/Microsoft Windows XP/Microsoft Windows XP - but when I look in the drive, there is no Windows XP directory in the Windows XP folder. So I'm not sure why that isn't showing up correctly.... My point was, I guess, if I could find the folders, would simply copying the applications from the XP 1 folder to the applications folder on XP 2 do the trick or is there more to it, like settings and stuff? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Oh...well, if you need to know, I have a MacBook Pro, running Leopard, with Parallels 5608 running Windows XP. If you need more stats... Thanks! Dan
1) If I keep original XP install - can I switch those settings to share the same desktop/folders as how I selected in install 2? How? No, Windows OS settings are different for every instance, but Parallels settings you can set the same using Configuration Editor 2) If I can't, can I keep XP install 2 - but move my programs from XP install 1 to XP install 2 - Note: I don't save anything on Windows. It's all (email, documents, etc..) is saved on the Mac side. I only have applications running on Windows. You need to install software again in second VM 3) If 1 is not an option, but 2 is...where is my 2nd install? My location to XP 1 is: /Volumes/Maxtor/Microsoft Windows XP. My location to XP 2 says it's: /Volumes/Maxtor/Microsoft Windows XP/Microsoft Windows XP - but when I look in the drive, there is no Windows XP directory in the Windows XP folder. So I'm not sure why that isn't showing up correctly.... Look in Finder- External Drive -Microsoft Windows XP - Microsoft Windows XP
Ok, so basically I can either use the first one as is or use the second one but have to reinstall all my applications/fonts/etc...? I would opt for #2, but I can't find that folder. I did look in Finder - External Drive - Microsoft Windows XP - but here is no other XP directory.
In this case it is just in Finder - External Drive - Microsoft Windows XP Check do you have .pvs and .winxp.hdd files there if yes, so here you are
I want to edit my configuration, but when I do so, it says the VM should be stopped. So I stop it, but then I can't edit it. How can I edit the configuration?
nevermind, I got it. As soon as I was stopping the VM, it'd disappear, but I caught it just in time. By the way. I was able to switch that option for having my pc desktop/docs/etc...mirror that of my mac when I'm running windows by editing the VM configuration.
