    Hi,

I used Migration Assistant in a move to a new MacBook Pro (not the new, just-released machine). The process seemed to move Parallels O.K. I connect wirelessly to the Internet O.K.

I'm using Build 5600 which works fine on my MacBook.

I get the following error message when I try to start Parallels :

    Here are other screenshots :

    I rebooted to no avail.

    Any ideas ?

What other information do you need to troubleshoot this issue ?

    Thanks a lot.

Remove network adapter from Configuration Editor and add back again

    Hi John,

    Thanks for the suggestion.

I removed the Network Adapter, and then tried to add one. But the option of choosing Shared Networking is grayed out :

    http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/266973/Picture 5.jpg

I am able successfully to get Parallels started by selecting Bridged Ethernet, and choosing my Wireless Airport in this instance :

Everything seems to work O.K. with this setup (I think. But I'm not familiar with the potential implications of Bridged Ethernet).

I would really like to get Shared Networking working because I use my Laptop in many different locations, sometimes with Airport, sometimes by connecting to my work network with an Ethernet cable.

Any further suggestions at this point ?

    Thanks again.

I suppose something prevents from Shared to be started
    put here
ifconfig -a from Terminal in Mac OS
Do you have wireless USB modem?

    Hi John,

Here is a bit of information that may be relevant to this situation. I speculated it may help to install the latest build.

I downloaded the Build 5608 .dmg

When I tried to use the Uninstaller application, it said :

"You do not have Parallels Desktop installed on your computer."

    ???

    Cheers,

    John,

Sorry. I don't understand what you're asking me to do.

    Step 4. from "http://kb.parallels.com/en/4790" says :

" 4. Launch the Uninstall Parallels Desktop application (you can find it on the Parallels Desktop CD or in the downloaded Parallels Desktop DMG package) and follow the on-screen instructions."

But, as I mentioned above, it returns : ""You do not have Parallels Desktop installed on your computer."

    Thanks.

    Howard

    John,

    Article ID: 4790 states :

"Errors occur when you try to install or update Parallels Desktop, create or open virtual machines, load the required drivers to the guest OS.

    Symptoms
The symptoms may vary from Parallels Desktop installation/update failure to problems during its operation, like inability to load required drivers, create VM, etc.

    Cause
Mac OS system failure or incorrect software update may result in inabilty to install Parallels Desktop or load system files properly. Working in Mac OS for long periods of time without restart may lead to some minor glitches to appear in the system as a whole.
    Resolution
To resolve these issues, do the following:

    1. Reboot your Mac.

    2. Launch Applications --> Utilities --> Disk Utility.

    3. Select Macintosh HD on the left tab and click the Repair Disk Permissions button.

    4. Launch the Uninstall Parallels Desktop application (you can find it on the Parallels Desktop CD or in the downloaded Parallels Desktop DMG package) and follow the on-screen instructions. Please note that Parallels Uninstaller does not remove virtual machines from your Macintosh hard disk. It is important to use the Uninstaller of the Parallels Desktop version currently installed or newer.

    5. Launch Applications --> Utilities --> Terminal and type the following commands:

NOTE! Please be sure to enter the commands in the full form because in case of missing any Mac OS can be corrupted.

    sudo rm -rf /Library/StartupItems/Parallels
    sudo rm -rf /Applications/Parallels
    sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/vmmain.kext
    sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/hypervisor.kext
    sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/Pvsvnic.kext
    sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/ConnectUSB.kext
    sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/Pvsnet.kext

If some commands are showing No such file or dir it means that uninstaller deleted them already and this is normal. "

    ............................

When I do Step 4. the Uninstaller Application does not run. It tells me that I don't have Parallels Desktop on my computer.

    I haven't gone on to Step 5.

Should I do so even thought the Uninstaller App has not run, etc. ?

    Thanks,

    howardm

    John,

I have not tried to install the latest build yet. My understanding is that one should use the Uninstalller Application first, and then install the Parallels Application. Becasuse the Uninstaller Application has not run (as described in my previous posts), I have not tried to install Build 5608.

Just be be clear : I have Build 5600 on my computer. When the Uninstaller App says I don't have it, that's wrong. I want to get Shared Networking working again.

    Sorry for the confusion.
