I see a build 5626 of Rel. 3.0 but it doesn't seem to be announced. So I went looking to find release notes for any version and could find none! Anyone know #1 - where are the Parallels Desktop for Mac release notes kept on the web? #2 - ...should we be upgrading to 3.0 build 5626 (I have 5608)? Thanks, Strathglass.
...and the question is: Why does it NOT work??? I have downloaded and installed it, but the only thing which does work is launching Parallels. As soon as I try to start a Windows XP VM, I get the beachball and that´s about it. Over the past years, I have been a Parallels supporter, but since the last builds, there are more problems than solutions - which is not really nice. Please advise how the latest build can be used. Thanks. kind regards Tom
And even worse: After force-quitting Parallels, my Mac Pro completely crashed. Had to cold boot it again. The error report shows: Mon Nov 10 21:08:45 2008 panic(cpu 3 caller 0x001A8CEC): Kernel trap at 0x6dc1d5cb, type 14=page fault, registers: CR0: 0x8001003b, CR2: 0x0000000d, CR3: 0x00e6b000, CR4: 0x00002660 EAX: 0x00000001, EBX: 0x14e5db40, ECX: 0x0050d444, EDX: 0x00534da0 CR2: 0x0000000d, EBP: 0x89937ee8, ESI: 0x00000003, EDI: 0x6d648000 EFL: 0x00010202, EIP: 0x6dc1d5cb, CS: 0x00000008, DS: 0x00530010 Error code: 0x00000000 Backtrace (CPU 3), Frame : Return Address (4 potential args on stack) 0x89937ce8 : 0x12b0fa (0x459234 0x89937d1c 0x133243 0x0) 0x89937d38 : 0x1a8cec (0x4627a0 0x6dc1d5cb 0xe 0x461f50) 0x89937e18 : 0x19eed5 (0x89937e30 0x664ea000 0x89937ee8 0x6dc1d5cb) 0x89937e28 : 0x6dc1d5cb (0xe 0x6dc20048 0x89930010 0x190010) 0x89937ee8 : 0x6dc21cc5 (0x14e5db40 0x206 0x89937f18 0x6dc1ce27) 0x89937f18 : 0x6dc1e828 (0xe2cb884 0x6dc2603c 0x6dc26058 0x2c) 0x89937f48 : 0x6dc1c57f (0xe2cb884 0x6dc25690 0x6dc25670 0x28f) 0x89937f78 : 0x6dc1c6f2 (0x11000000 0x0 0x0 0x86febf0) 0x89937fc8 : 0x19eccc (0x0 0x0 0x1a20b5 0x9ca9048) Backtrace terminated-invalid frame pointer 0 Kernel loadable modules in backtrace (with dependencies): com.parallels.kext.vmmain(3.0)@0x6dc1b000->0x6dc2afff BSD process name corresponding to current thread: kernel_task Mac OS version: 9F33 Kernel version: Darwin Kernel Version 9.5.0: Wed Sep 3 11:29:43 PDT 2008; root:xnu-1228.7.58~1/RELEASE_I386 System model name: MacPro1,1 (Mac-F4208DC8)
Well Tom, after your experience I certainly won't rush out and install this new version!!! Anyone care to let us know where the release notes are? -Strathglass.
Hi Strathglas, after proceeding as described here "http://kb.parallels.com/en/4790" and rebooting my Mac Pro several times, I can now again access the VMs. So the installer obviously has "corrupted" something here which needed repair. For whatever reason... Maybe you can give it a try once you are careful? Cheers Tom
Since my installation of the earlier 5608 build is actually working fine, I think I will avoid the risk and not update at this time! -Strathglass
I have always found with Parallels updates, that unless i rebooted the upgrade would beachball my VM's - like 9 out of 10 times. What I never have understood is why they don't just enforce a reboot as part of the upgrade.
So far so good Just updated to 5626 from 5608 and as far as I can tell, no problems. So far, seamless. Not ready to completely believe it, but like I said above...so far, so good.
Can't Mount 3.0 build 5626 DMG Running OS X 10.5.5, got an update notice when starting Parallels Desktop (current version 5608) - selected option to download the update, 5626, and after the DMG downloaded (110.7 MB), selected the option to install the update but got this message: Warning The following disk images failed to mount Image Reason Parallels-Desktop-5626-Mac-en-ND.dmg not recognized While trying to google a solution, I read a suggestion to download the update directly from the Parallels site, but I'm taken to the Parallels 4.0 download site by the 5626 link. If this is a lame-brain ploy to get me to buy the new version, I'll buy VMWare instead. What's the problem? Is 5626 real or a marketing tool?
same issue here re:5626 Update fails to mount. Running 5600 on 20' Imac. Current version of Parallels is now working fine after a week of video "jitters" and errors. Not sure I should upgrade. Can't find any alternative download sites as others have seemed to have had success with doing this. Why isn't there a page for 3.0 support and downloads? Brian
Thanks. But as the previous poster asked, why isn't there a page for version 3 support and downloads? All I can find is the 4.0 upgrade which is cruel since I'm still at 10.4.11
no updates visible on webpage - :-( It is not good to "force" visitors and users to upgrade to a new release (4) by hiding any support for previous versions. This is not the way to keep them away from competitors. It works the other way round: If there is a clearly visible section for older updates people like me would appreciate that. Besides that it is true that updating parallels is a crashy thing...
