Here is what I think you need... [Parallels #613027] [PD4] Dispatcher crashing

Support helped me fix it. But my problem was that the dispatcher crashing... Do you get output from the command
    sudo lsof -c prl_disp_service
    ???

This is the reply I got from support, but this fix was just for me, because prl_disp_service kept crashing. Other users could get output from the command I issued above as the service was running. Also doing this fix deletes all your network settings, so you have to add your VPN connections again, etc.

    Anyway...
Problem appears due to incorrect handling of inconsistent Mac OS X configuration networking configuration.

Could you please start terminal (Application -> Utilities -> Terminal) and type next commands

    1)
    cp /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist .
    sudo rm /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist

    and reboot.

    2) If this doesn't help, next two commands will reset MacOS X networking configuration
    cp /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist .
    sudo rm /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist

    and reboot.

Anytime it will be possible to restore origianl network configuration by copying backupped in your home folder NetworkInterfaces.plist and preferences.plist to the original location.

    This should help.

Well it's probably not going to help most of you but a new install of MacOS helps too. Just got my new hdd and suddenly parallels works.

Tried the steps reported by ichi above, but to no avail.

And I'm not planning on a complete new install of my Mac just to get this working! Probably at least a day's effort to get it back to my current configuration...

It looks to me like this wasn't beta tested properly. No matter what the configuration you have there is no way things should be crashing or not working like this.
I have it working now, but only with a new VM. I'm still having trouble with the CPU usage of an upgraded VM.

Yeah, mine seems to have been a specific case in this thread. The others had the prl_disp_service running, as far as I know it was just me that that fix was for... Posted just in case it might help someone else... :-/

    Me too....

One other issue I'm having with Parallels 3.x is now it's taken over that 'area' of my screen when it's running. When my mouse goes over the program window Parallels takes control of my mouse. I'm going to have to wait to try again. I'm in the middle of a project for my windoze servers. I never dreamed of issues like this so I had to remove 4 and reinstall 3.

    Interesting.

It appears as though boot camp breaks parallels 4.0. Parallels desktop loaded fine before i installed my windows through boot camp. Afterwards i get the illustrious error when trying to start parallels desktop.

Maybe thats issue is specific to my macbook. Can anybody confirm this? (someone with too much time on his hands :))

I guess I am the lucky one... when I tried to install P4 the progress bar stalled about 80% along, and pressing the 'cancel' button had no effect.
Activity Monitor confirmed that Parallels was not responding.

    'Force Quit' time :-(

I tried both within the VM and also with just the plain Parallels application.
    Download stalled again.

Lucky? I am still running 3 point wotsit and everything works.

    Mac Intel Pro 2.66
    5Gig Ram
    OS 10.4.11

Is this a Beta? If so, it should never be part of a standard automatic update.
If not, then the Beta team need to be thoroughly whipped.

I could work-around this error by reinstalling Parallels. However I can't do that every time I hit this error. Next time I will prob just uninstall it for good (unless there is fix posted on the forum).

Just tried every solution in this thread and I have the same problem!!! What's up with that. I'm glad I didn't pay the $39 for the upgrade before trying this software. 3.0 worked great for me and Sun's free Virtualbox has replaced 3.0 on my system since it didn't seem as heavy... I guess I'm going back to Virtualbox until I can get my hands on a working 4.0 and see if the speed claims are real or perceived.
