Parallels 4.0.3522 PXE Boot

Hi all,

After installing Parallels 4, and converting my image completely hosed my existing Parallels image, I decided I'd give it the benefit of the doubt, and attempt the new PXE functionality.

Has anyone had success with this?

We are running an Altiris PXE server. We are able to create the VM, and are able to begin loading the setup files to load PXE. However, after PXE finishes loading, Altris fails to validate the IP address:



I see the driver failed in this case, however, that didn't change the result when it was loaded successfully. It continues to retry the DHCP client service until it times out.

Has anyone managed to do this successfully?

After playing with this for several hours, we actually got it working. In order for this to work, we had to load the Parallels 4 driver into WinPE.

After cracking open the MSI, I was able to locate prl_eth5.inf, prl_eth5.cat, and prl_eth5.sys. After loading these into WinPE, we were able to boot, and push down our image.

After doing that, we loaded parallels tools, and everything is gravy.

May be this info will be interesting to you:

After installing the Parallels Tools to some windows VM all drivers are located in the C:\Program Files\Parallels\Parallels Tools so cracking is not an obligatory. We are planning also to place it in the separate folder on the Tools installation CD, but not in the nearest update..

And just in case it will be useful - initially Parallels starts with Realtek8029 card
