    Hello, Christian,

to see the logs, please, click Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tasks -> Event Viewer

here you can find System and Application tabs.
Look for warnings and error messages.

    Windows Logs

Most of the error entries in the logs refer to "no domain controller being available" - which is normal as I am part of a domain but not connected to my work network. Really the only message that referred somehow to anything Parallels (".psf") is:

The Security System detected an attempted downgrade attack for server cifs/.psf. The failure code from authentication protocol Kerberos was "There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request.
    (0xc000005e)".

And then again, this has to do with being away from the domain controller.
Not being connected to the domain controller has never been a problem before - the system simply uses the stored credentials until it connects next time. So that can't be it, can it?

Now for instance - without doing anything - all of a sudden the balloon "New programs installed" appeared - and the Shared Parallels Applications folder is there again - but only with Microsoft Excel for Macintosh (only one application). That one also works, but all the rest is not there.

    Something is weird here.

It looks that something is weird with AD GPO, try to contact your network admin and clarify situation with software publishing and assigning GPO

If I removed my computer from the domain, do you think that would help? I don't think we even have AD services or any group policies in use.

Hi all, I originally started this thread.
As long as I used PD3 this was always quite random; one day I had some apps, the next others, the third day none, and never all.
As of today I'm on PD4, and finally all Mac apps show up! Mind you, it's still Day-1, but so far it's better than ever ;)
    Upgrade!

Now I've upgraded to 4.0 as well - and after the whole "conversion" enchilada with no possibility of backup or roll back (because it's a BootCamp partition) Windows does not boot any more at all. :-( It stops with a Blue Screen saying:

    STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The session manager Initialization system process terminated unexpectedly with a
    status of 0xc000003a
The system has been shut down.

    Hello,
The problem is in Spotlight service, for unknown reasons it fails sometimes to find your applications. We use Spotlight to search for applications on your Mac. We know about this problem. In our hotfix update build 3540 (http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=31764) problem solved - we will search for Mac apps without Spotlight, if spotlight search returns zero result. Try this update please.

If you have problems, that some Mac apps you want, don't present in Windows Guest try the following (only with build 3540 or higher!):
    1. In Mac menu bar "Applications -> [Shared Mac Applications] Populate"
    2. Wait for a while. While waiting you can look at Windows "Start -> Programms -> Parallels Shared Applications" - Mac applications will appear there.
    3. Go "Help -> Report a Problem...", put there comment about your problem, for example "No Textedit Mac application in Parallels Shared Applications in my Windows XP SP2"
    4. Post report and remember its ID (number).

Post here ID of problem report and what application you want that not present in Shared Mac Applications in guest. Also write here where your application installed (/Applications, /Developer, etc). We will discover this problem more closely with your help.

    Thanks for your reply!
The problem is in BetterZip application - it has no OS Type code (creator) assigned.

I can provide a quick solution for you and others to solve such problems.

    1. Open application's PkgInfo file (for BetterZip it will be "/Applications/BetterZip.app/Contents/PkgInfo") in TextEdit or other editor. Change "????" to something else, for example "BZIP" (4 capital latin letters). So, the entire content of PkgInfo file will looks like "APPLBZIP"
    2. Open applications Info.plist file (for BetterZip it will be "/Applications/BetterZip.app/Contents/Info.plist") in TextEdit or other editor (for example, Property List Editor which comes with developer tools). Find "<key>CFBundleSignature</key>" line (or "Bundle creator OS Type code" field in Property List Editor). Change the following line "<string>????</string>" to something like "<string>BZIP</string>" (the replacement must be the same as in "1.")

All done. Now we need to tell Mac OS X that application was changed a little, there several ways to do it:
    - move (copy not required) to some other location (I use Trash for such purposes, but you can use Documents for example :) and then move it back to "/Applications"
    - touch it using Terminal
    - other less handy ways

After that start your Virtual Machine and click Applications -> [Shared Mac Application] Populate. Wait for a while, application will be in Parallels Shared Applications folder in Start menu.

I attached an Apple Script file that will do the same thing. It is very convenient and documented. Just open and run it (push the green Play button). It will ask what application to modify and what creator OS Type to assign to it. You can say "Cancel" in any time. Also you can revert to the original by entering "????" creator OS Type code.

wonder_mice, this was an excellent reply! Thanks so much, I really appreciate the level of insight!

Using 4.0.3540 I still have one problem related to this, namely that the Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac programs (Word, Excel and Powerpoint) don't show up. They don't seem to be packages, so I can't 'open the package' to get to the PkgInfo and Info.plist files.

Any idea how to solve this?
