    Hi

I have searched far and wide but cannot find what I actually want. It seems silly that I can't do it but I am getting frustrated so hopefully you guys can help!

All I want to do is to share a folder in the xp vm with the network. When I right-click on the folder sharing options don't come up. Any ideas please?

    Thanks

    Hello,

did you switch to bridged networking mode? This will make your virtual machine available from the network. Take a look at the following article for more information on networking modes:

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes I did enable bridge networking. I set the bridge networking to ethernet 2 (I have two network cards). Should I use a different setting i.e. Parallels shared networking adapter?

    Thanks

    Not working in 4

    Hi Guys

I am speaking to tech support on this so hopefully they can help but....

    Mac Pro running 10.5.6
    Xp running sp3
    Parallels 4 build 3540

    I have bridged networking enabled.

I am however unable to share any folders (other than the standard share folders in xp) with the network. We have the mac networked to a variety of xp machines and want those xp machines to connect to the xp installed on the mac. However, when we click on folder options we are unable to share the folders at all.

    Any ideas please?

    Thanks

    Rich

I can see your post in another , but I am not sure I can understand fully, in another thread it is VPN, here it is network,
Anyway in your case I guess Bridged Ethernet will work

Sorry I am confusing the situation by writing vpn....

It is simply that I cannot share folders in xp at all with the network - doesn't matter whether we're using vpn or simply from within the internal network.

Perhaps it is a methodology issue:

    1. I just went on my WINXP vm and right mouse clicked a folder
    2. Clicked Properties
    3. Clicked Sharing
    4. Clicked share this folder on the network
    5. Typed my 'share name'
    6. checked 'allow network users to change my files'
    7. clicked apply
    8. went to mac side in finder clicked 'GO'
    9 clicked: connect to server
    10. typed: smb://winxpvm/Visual (folder I shared)
    11. Clicked Connect
    12. I was prompted for my credentials which I entered
    13. All contents of the share were accessible

    Hope this helps.

It is correct, except one point smb://winxpvm/Visual
    use smb://VM.IP.add.ress/Visual

John, quick question on this would the smb://VM.IP.add.ress/Visual be for faster access? I was successful getting to my share with the name so I wanted to learn - thank you.

Yes, with IP address access will be more faster, just imagine we are avoiding one point - name to ip resolution

Got it - thus the same result as when I set the clients to resolve to UNC versus IP for db access! Thank you for the education :)
