I am using Mac OS X version 10.5.6. I have a new MacBook (2.4 Ghz; 2 GB Memory). I am using a trial version of Parallels for Mac version 4.0.3810. I have Bootcamp installed in a separate partition. I just finished configuring the Parallels "virtual machine" to work with Bootcamp. I had no problems accessing the XP Window to continue the configuration and got to step 4 of the 4 step process with no problem. A pale blue progress bar appeared and progessed until it became a solid blue bar. Everything seems to have gone smoothly and Parallels just finished step 4 of 4 steps (installing Parallel Tools). However, the configuration screen is now frozen, the blue solid bar has now changed to a grey bar and I have been waiting for 30 minutes for it to close. I cannot close the VM window, I cannot access Parallels except through Spaces.

Any suggestions? I have searched the forums, reviewed the manual and don't know what to do next.

    Any help much appreciated.
    Stu

    Could you please provide screenshot?

Here you are - I could only access Parallels through Spaces - the grey bar was solid blue until just before my posting; it is now grey. The Parallels Desktop icon in the dock still has the "red circle".

    Thanks

I am freezing at step 2

I have a Macbook Pro Feb 2006 vintage with 1.5GB of DRAM and MacOS 10.5.6. Upgrading to Parallels 4 build 3810.

Manually started the second stage update of Windows 2000 VM by double clicking setup.exe on mounted CD image.

It froze as shown in the grab. Parallels is using between 35 and 55% of a cpu.

    This is from the console:

    Yo I got it.

The clue is the little padlock image in the top right of the dialog. I know Apple likes subtle GUI clues but this one is silly. You need to click the padlock which will take you to Windoze to log in as Administrator. Once you do this it goes on to the next stage. I had to do it three times in all.

    Cheers

Thanks for mentioning this. I thought the new converter tool would deactivate the Windows security...and it doesn't. So if you get to step 4 and it goes to the very end of the task bar and keeps scrolling...hit the gray lock hidden in the upper right of the updater screen to go into manual install mode. If your machine is like mine, you'll see Windows Security complaining about the Parallels Tools driver updates. Keep hitting 'install anyway' until the Parallel Tools installer is complete. That worked for me. Vista as a virtual OS works beautifully. I'm still having problems with my XP/Boot Camp partition, but that's another post.
