    Hi there,

I have 3.0 for longer time now. I purchased 4.0 upgrade and can't go over step where installer says that I have to stop existing 3.0.
Needles to say 3.0 is not active. Also, documentation says that 4.0 will automatically remove 3.0 and install 4.0. That part simply doesn't happen!
I tried rebooting, disk verifications, permissions repairs, running installer many times and it won't go over that one point. I tried same thing on two Macs and it acts exactly the same. Finds existing Windows XP VM installation and stops.
    Any ideas?

Please make sure check following steps
    Restart Mac
You can use also build from http://kb.parallels.com/en/5802 to uninstall version 3

    1. Parallels Desktop version 3 or earlier is not running
    2. Virtual machines you stopped are not in the suspended mode
    - Navigate to Virtual machine folder and check for file with .mem and .sav extension
    - Delete those files
    3. Restart installation
    4. If error is still there:
    - Open Terminal from /Applications/Utilities
    perform following commands

    cd ~/Documents

    rm -rf .parallels-vm-directory
    5. Restart installation , and click next, on that Conflicting Virtual machines page,
(Next button should be available now)

This worked! I was a bit afraid to type commands in order not to screw up something but it was OK.
It is still a secret why installer didn't do it's job but it is over now. Thank you!
