The only CD that I have with a copy XP Pro to hand is a Virtual PC distirbution. The second disk contains a zip distribution which uncompressed results in a file with a .002 extension. Should it be possible to install this as a Virtual PC or to create a .iso image? Or is there something about how Microsoft Virtual PC XP disks are created that means I'll need to create a .iso image from somewhere else?
Me too I have the same situation... I hate to have to buy a whole new distribution... can this work? If you remove the mysterious .002 suffix you end up with a .vhd file, complete with a nice Virtual PC icon. I know XP is in there someplace!
Unfortunately for you, the XP that comes with VPC does to in the .vhd file...which is Virtual Hard Drive format. It is only licensed for use in VPC and is pre-installed. There is no way to install it elsewhere, as there is no installer to run on another PC. Microsoft strikes again.
But you have a valid license key, right? So get an XP CD (those seem ubiquitous) and use you own license key.
