So I downloaded Parallels and installed it. I select "New VM" and make one fine. I go into the Configuration Editor and make sure that the CD drive is enabled. I start the VM and I just get the error "No boot device available, press Enter to continue." It continues to loop that error no matter how many times the enter key is pressed. The XP Pro CD is in the drive, however, it won't recognize it. Could someone explain to a Microsoft Certified tech geek how to install XP Pro on this VM?
CD is the first in the boot sequence. Even if it wasn't, it should still query the other sources for boot instructions. It's like it doesn't even recognize there is anything connected to it, despite having everything "Enabled" and "Connected".
And whats more, I can see the CD being dismounted and mounted on OS X as I stop and start the VM. I also tried the installation with an ISO image and still the same error message.
To expand on other replies, the CD MUST be the master on the first controller if you want it to boot. The BIOS will NOT look elsewhere for a boot device. This is a known bug that may become a feature if they document it before they get around to fixing it. Be sure to put the .hdd back on 0/0 after you get the .hdd bootable. I'm not sure what Microsoft certification has to do with anything, since I've never seen a computer ask for a certificate before deciding whether or not to work.
