Turns out Microsoft could put "Spaces" into Vista, and then say they did not copy Apple's Leopard. And they'd be right. Kinda.

Check out "Virtual Desktop Manager" for XP:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

I installed it into my Parallels Desktop, and I love it!

I've been using virtual desktops on my Mac for years now, nice to have something similar in XP, and can't wait for the Leopard implementation, which will be the best yet.

    Unix/Linux the granddaddy

Linux has had this ability ever since I've heard of Linux. It came about due to the ability to have virtual workspaces in Unix, when the GUI came into being for Unix/Linux, the workspaces evolved into virtual desktops.

Not sure I would say 'love it'.

I installed it this morning following your posting (thank you) but am finding some issues, like Outlook messages not appearing where you would expect them too while this is running.

Plus you cannot bind applications to work spaces.

    But it is kinda cool.

Also keep in mind that there are various 3rd party apps out there that enable virtual desktops on Mac OS X for a long time...

Many people (including me) use VirtueDesktops to allow switching between the Mac desktop & full screen Parallels Desktops...
