On Windows start-up, I get an error message that says

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
    \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM.
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.

What is the process for repairing?
    Thanks!

Your registry got clobbered. Boot with F8 depressed, and you should get a boot menu. Select to boot with the last known good configuration (or something like that.)

This will load the last registry backup that worked.

If that fails, you need to do a repair install by booting from the Install CD. Watch that carefully, if you do not hit the right answers, it can wipe your system. If you are not familiar with it, find a walk through for it and follow it.

Thanks. The first solution did not work, so it appears as if I have to reboot from the Install CD. But what is that? I do have the Windows XP install CD, but how do i boot using that?
